Organization: Houston Rockets

Program Title: Junior Power Clinic with the Houston Rockets Power Dancers

Objective: To increase group ticket sales as well as introduce Rockets Basketball to a new demographic.

Program Description: The Houston Rockets Power Dancers got a little younger last Saturday when around 85 children ages 8 -18 participated in a halftime performance during the Rockets/Nuggets game. The "Junior Power Clinic" - named after the Houston Rockets Power Dancers - is Houston's new youth cheerleading program.

For a registration fee of $65, participants received the following benefits:

  • 2 tickets to the game ($68 value)
  • A cheer clinic one week prior to the performance
  • An autographed Power Dancer poster and dance clinic T-shirt
  • Certificate of Participation
  • And of course the greatest benefit, the opportunity to perform at half-time of the game!

Recognizing the fact that most families of children participating would need more than just 2 tickets, the Rockets saw a tremendous upsell opportunity. For a price of only $19 each, families of participants could buy additional tickets - and if they purchased 4 or more extra tickets, they received a free video of the night's performance.

Results: The Junior Power Clinic was a definite success! The Rockets sold over 400 group tickets - generating over $10,000 for the team. It also allowed many families to be introduced to Rockets Basketball.

Looking Ahead: The Rockets are looking to continue the program on a larger scale next season by aggressively promoting the clinic on the internet and to more schools in the Greater Houston Area. With that said, they project 1,000 - 1,500 group tickets per performance during the 2003 - 2004 season.
