Program Title: All-Star FanFest promotion

Objective: To increase pre-sales for 2006 All-Star FanFest tickets

Program Description: ‘The early bird gets the worm’ – that's a saying we all know, right?  Well, this spring some lucky fans in Pittsburgh got the chance to be early birds and beat the competition to some 2007 MLB All-Star Game tickets and other prizes.

Here is how it worked… Die-hard fans who purchased their MLB All-Star FanFest tickets early, between April 10th - 25th, were entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of several All-Star prizes, which included:

  • Two tickets to the 77th MLB All-Star Game;

  • Two tickets to the Taco Bell® All-Star Sunday, which is the first day of events at PNC Park featuring the All-Star Futures Game and the Taco Bell® All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game;

  • Two tickets to the Gatorade® All-Star Workout Day, which is highlighted by All-Star batting practice and the CENTURY 21® Home Run Derby;

  •  Baseballs autographed by All-Star FanFest spokesman Jason Bay and Hall of Famer Bill Mazeroski.

Media:  Pirates promoted the All-Star FanFest contest through press releases, media tours, e-mail blasts, followed up by their website and in-game promotions.  Post coverage was secured across all media platforms - including the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and SportsBusinessDaily.com, as well as other print, Internet, radio, and televised coverage.

Results:  Not only did the Pirates increase awareness of All-Star FanFest with the promotion, pre-sales from the same time period in 2005 increased by 56%!

Looking Ahead: While this was a one-time promotion created to drive initial pre-sales for FanFest tickets, based on the success of this promotion, the Pirates may look to do something similar later this month for FanFest.
