PROGRAM TITLE

Memphis Grizzlies Power Packs presented by Circle K

OBJECTIVES

The Memphis Grizzlies basketball organization has always made a concerted effort in trying to connect with their fans at every possible chance. From the court to the community, the Grizzlies have contributed over $20 million to local nonprofit organizations with a focus on youth since December 2001. On that note, the Grizzlies are again giving money, this time back to their fans’ wallets by way of gas cards. The idea is derived from the Grizzlies Season Stimulus Plan where Grizzlies fans exchanged their United States Treasury Economic Stimulus Package for two 2008-2009 full Season Tickets. With gas prices still at outrageously high prices for the foreseeable future, the Grizzlies are taking some of the burden off their loyal fans. Memphis Grizzlies EVP of Business Operations, Mike Redlick stated, “With the cost of living rising we understand it’s becoming more difficult for individuals and families to stretch their entertainment dollars. We're trying to make our product as affordable as possible.”

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The 2008-2009 Power Packs feature an 11 or 22 game ticket option, with new seating and pricing points available on the Terrace, First Tennessee Club, and Plaza Levels. Fans interested in 11 ticket Game Packs have the option of three themed packages: the ‘Weekend Pack’ which primarily consists of Friday and Saturday games, the ‘All-Star Pack’ that gives fans the exclusive chance to see perennial NBA All-Stars in the likes of Chris Paul, Tim Duncan, and Allen Iverson or the ‘Big Game Pack’, which allows fans to watch more than half of the Grizzlies’ home games for as low as $5 per game. Fans also have the option of choosing any two 11 Game Packs to customize their own 22 Game Pack. In addition to purchasing a Game Pack valued at $132 or more, fans will receive $25 to $150 in free gas courtesy of Circle K.

"We want to try to offer fans a great opportunity to pay for their transportation costs. We want to make it as easy, convenient and cost-effective as possible for people to come to our games,” says Redlick.

In addition, fans receive personal service from an account executive, discounted group offers for select games and priority purchasing for additional tickets to regular season and playoff games and select FedExForum events.  22 Game Pack holders will get the added ability to exchange unused tickets to select games, and the option to be signed up as an MVP account holder which allows the opportunity to forward tickets to friends, family or clients online and exclusive merchandise discounts at the Grizzlies Den Team Store.

Highly touted rookie OJ Mayo is looking to provide the team with more excitement in the upcoming NBA season

MEDIA

The Grizzlies advertised the Power Packs through print advertisements, direct mail, and online through their team website, nba.com/grizzlies.

PARTNERS

The Grizzlies are partnering with Circle K for the 2008-2009 Power Pack gas cards. Redlick believes that “by partnering with Circle K, we are not only providing one of the most affordable entertainment options in the NBA, but also helping take the pressure of the pumps off of our loyal fans.” With the partnership, the Grizzlies are able to use dozens of Circle K stores in the greater Memphis area as new points of distribution of team merchandise.

Sky high gas prices are being eased by the free Circle K gas cards

RESULTS

The Grizzlies are selling more Packs at this point compared to last year, even as economic uncertainty is a more prevalent concern from years past.

Ads on their team website are proving to be a success for the Grizzlies organization

LOOKING AHEAD

Considering their fans’ well-being and current circumstances, the Grizzlies will use similar initiatives in the future.
