Three former Blues get drafted

By: Matt Polek

The 2019 MLB draft has concluded, and the Bristol Blues are proud to say that 3 former players were drafted this year. Jacob Wallace, Jimmy Titus, and Malachi Edmond were all selections in the MLB Draft this past week. Wallace and Titus played together for the Blues in 2016 and Edmond played for Bristol in 2017 along with Wallace who spent 2 years with the Blues.

Jacob Wallace was taken with the 100th overall pick in the draft by the Colorado Rockies (3rd round). Wallace, UCONN’s closer, is coming off one of the best years for a Huskie reliever ever, throwing 42 innings and allowing just 3 earned runs. In an appearance VS Oklahoma State, he faced 7 batters, and he got 7 strikeouts, not one ball was hit in play against him. In the NCAA tournament, he retired all 15 batters he faced including 12 of them being on strikeouts. While playing for the Blues in 2017 Wallace threw 20 innings, with 25 Ks, and pitched to a 1.66 ERA. He was named an FCBL All-Star that season. Blues and Huskie fans might see Wallace back in CT one day if he can climb through the Colorado Rockies minor league system quickly, those Hartford YardGoats we love are the AA Affiliate of the Rockies, so Wallace has the chance to play again here in CT if he can work his way back here.

Jimmy Titus, a Stratford native was selected out of Bryant University by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 22nd round, 671st overall. Titus is coming off of a 59-game season for the Bulldogs in which he hit .343 with 12 home runs and 63 RBI. “I see him moving to corner infield at the next level and continuing to be a big RH bat as he develops comfort in a new position,” Bryant head coach Steve Owens said in an article published to bryantbulldogs.com. In the summer of 2016 Titus played 36 games for the Blues and hit .288 with 8 doubles.

Malachi Edmond was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles out of the University of New Mexico in the 18th round with the 528th pick. From Coventry, CT Edmond played for the Blues in 2017. He made 8 starts and had 37 strikeouts to just 20 walks. His ERA for Bristol that summer was 3.82. In his best start he went 8 innings without allowing an earned run and allowed just 2 hits. At the University of New Mexico, he had a career 3.10 ERA as a bullpen arm. He finished with a 6-3 record and 12 saves over 2 seasons and he had 104 strikeouts in just 78.1 innings.

The Bristol Blues are proud of all 3 of these former players and we wish them continued success as they continue their journey to the Major Leagues!
