Strong Bravehearts Pitching Blanks Blues

Worcester, MA – Worcester starting pitching Kyle Angel tossed five shutout innings and a combination of Kendall Pomeroy and Edward Lehr threw the final four innings of scoreless baseball as the Bravehearts topped the Blues, 7-0, at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

The start was the first of the season for Angel. He entered the game with just two innings pitched on the season. The right-hander struck out six Blues hitters and allowed just 4 hits in his five innings of work. Angel walked two batters. The only significant trouble Angel faced came in the fifth after he allowed one hit each to Bristol’s Jeremy Sagun and Giacomo Brancato and walked Alex Loparco, but Angel worked out of the bases loaded jam.

Kendall Pomeroy followed with three innings of relief work, striking out six batters. Lehr pitched the final inning and recorded one strikeout.

As for the Bravehearts offense, it was hot from the start after combining for just five runs over the previous two games, both of which were losses. Worcester scored in the bottom of the first thanks to an RBI single from Brett Coffel which scored Chris Rinaldi.
Worcester tacked on three runs in the second inning, and the bottom of the order got it started. Centerfielder Joseph Pesce started the hit parade with a one-out single, followed by an RBI double from Alex Gionis, who came around to score after a wild pitch and a throwing error by Bristol catcher Miguel De Los Santos. Mariano Riccardi singled, John Thrasher singled, and then Chris Rinaldi singled home Riccardi to cap off the outburst for the Bravehearts that included five straight hits.

Worcester scored another run in the fifth, sixth, and eighth innings to account for the seven total runs.

Overall, five Worcester batters recorded multi-hit games. John Thrasher finished 3-5 with two singles and a double. Rinaldi finished 2-4 with two singles, an RBI, and a walk. Michael Dellicarri went 2-4 with a double and a single. Pesce had two hits including a triple, his first extra-base hit of the season. Riccardi had two singles.

Bristol starter Michael Genaro lasted five innings, allowing 10 hits and five runs while striking out just three. Jeremy Sagun finished 2-4 with two singles.

The Bravehearts are back in action tomorrow in Worcester to take on the Suns. First pitch is at 7 o’clock.
