Worcester Back in Win Column

Worcester, MA – The Worcester Bravehearts defeated the Westfield Starfires 3-2 Wednesday night at Fitton Field. 

With the win, the Bravehearts move to 17-24. Westfield falls to 20-20. 

The Bravehearts took an early lead in the bottom of the second. A sacrifice fly by Matt Livingston (Siena) scored TJ Wachter (Fordham) to give the ‘Hearts a 1-0 lead. 

Westfield came back in the top of the fourth to tie the game. An RBI double by Jackson Hornung (Skidmore) would bring home Luca Giallongo (New England College), knotting the score 1-1.

A two-run sixth inning by the ‘Hearts broke the tie. Kosta Drosidis (Anna Maria) drove in Matty Warren (Palm Beach Atlantic) on an RBI double. After advancing to third, Drosidis scored on a groundout by Wachter. 

Westfield scored one run in the seventh on a Gunnar Johnson (Woffard) single that brought in Patrick D’Amico (Seton Hall) but could do no more. 

Bravehearts starter Ben Smith (Worcester State) picked up the win for Worcester, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits in seven innings, striking out four. The loss went to Westfield’s Max Moss (Clark). He gave up three earned runs on seven hits and two walks in 7.2 innings, striking out three. Zander Gilmartin (Middlebury) tossed two scoreless innings, giving up no hits or walks while striking out two, earning the save in his Bravehearts debut. 

The Bravehearts return to Fitton Field Thursday night for a matchup against the Vermont Lake Monsters. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30.
