Bravehearts Batter Brockton

The Worcester Bravehearts defeated the Brockton Rox 9-4 Saturday evening at Fitton Field.

The Bravehearts move to 7-2, and into first place in the Futures League standings, with the win. Brockton falls to 4-5 with the loss.

After two Bravehearts errors allowed Brockton to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Worcester came back to take the lead in the bottom of the frame.

Matty Warren (Palm Beach Atlantic) led the inning off with a single. After stealing second, Warren scored on an RBI single by Holden native Kosta Drosidis (Anna Maria). Drosidis came home on another RBI single from Cam Seymour (Southern Maine) to give Worcester a 2-1 lead it would not relinquish.

The Bravehearts added two more runs in the second inning, with Worcester native David Pedanou (Dayton) scoring on a wild pitch, and another RBI single by Drosidis that brought home Sal Grinstead (Palm Beach State).

Worcester scored two more runs in the fourth on an error and another run in the fifth on a Warren RBI single that scored Pedanou.

TJ Wachter (Fordham) got in on the action with a solo home run in the sixth, along with Joe Pesce (Franklin Pierce), who added another run with an RBI single of his own that scored Lewis Barnum (Bryant).

Brockton added three more runs in the top of the ninth, on a bases-loaded walk that scored Jack Doyle (Northeastern), followed up by a two-run single by D’Angelo Ortiz (Miami Dade College). That single scored Jordan Kahn (Georgetown) and Pedro Martinez Jr. (Lynn).

Bravehearts starter Clay Robbins (Southern Maine) got the win, giving up one unearned run on three hits and three walks, striking out eight. Brockton starter Ben Spencer (Clark) took the loss for the Rox, giving up six runs, four earned, in four innings on 10 hits and three walks while striking out three.

The Bravehearts will be on the road tomorrow against Brockton at Campanelli Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30.
