Bravehearts Rally Falls Short

Worcester, MA— The Worcester Bravehearts fell to the Pittsfield Suns Tuesday night at Fitton Field, 10-7. With the loss, Worcester falls to 27-28, while Pittsfield moves to 32-23.

 

Pittsfield got on the board in the first inning thanks to a solo home run by Joel Lara (Franklin Pierce), a two-run double by Jake Blinstrub (Mount St. Vincent), and a steal of home by Blinstrub. The Bravehearts got one run back in the inning after a Gavin Noriega (Marist) single scored Mark Darakjy (Northeastern), ending the inning with a score of 4-1.

 

The Suns added another four runs in the second inning on five hits and one error. The Bravehearts added their second run of the night after a sacrifice fly by Darakjy scored Shrewsbury native Nick Martin (Westfield State) in the fifth, and added their third run in the seventh after Martin hit a solo home run in front of his former American Legion team, Post 397.

 

Zach DeMattio (Wheaton) narrowed the score to 8-7 in the seventh inning when he crushed a grand slam to center field, scoring Noriega, Darakjy, and Cam Caraher (Southern New Hampshire). The Suns added a run each in the eighth and ninth inning.

 

Worcester pitcher Matt Nunan (Boston College) was a bright spot for the ‘Hearts, holding the Suns to just three walks while striking out seven through five innings of relief.

 

‘Hearts starter Julian Gonzalez (Keystone) was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs on two hits and three walks while striking out two through one inning of work. Suns starter Jack Mullen (Bowdoin) earned the win after allowing two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out three through five innings. Ryan Langford (Florida Southern) earned the win after striking out two in the ninth inning. 

 

Worcester heads out on the road tomorrow, August 4th, to face the Brockton Rox at 5:00 p.m. The Bravehearts will return to Fitton Field on Saturday, August 7th to face the Pittsfield Suns at 6:30 p.m.
