Bravehearts' Angelo Baez Wins Pitcher of the Year

Worcester, MA -  It was announced Monday night that Worcester starting pitcher Angelo Baez (St. Thomas Aquinas College) was named the Futures Collegiate Baseball League Pitcher of the Year.
 
After starting the season as the Bravehearts closer, Baez was moved into a starting role for Worcester. The right-hander had a perfect 0.00 ERA as a closer in his first five appearances, recording two saves. As a starter, Baez went 5-1 for the Bravehearts, ultimately transitioning into the ace of the team.
 
Baez was named to the FCBL All-Star team in mid-July, where he pitched a scoreless inning for the Hillies. Overall, the right-hander finished the season 5-1 with a 1.63 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP during the 2019 campaign. He recorded 62 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched, finishing third in the league in the strikeout category. Opponents finished the season with a .192 batting average against Baez, and a .233 slugging percentage. 
 
In the playoffs, Baez was named the starter in Worcester’s elimination game against the Pittsfield Suns. While getting the win, he allowed three hits and two walks and striking out eight in six scoreless innings of work.
