Bravehearts Bounce Back in Pittsfield
Worcester wins 9-3 on the road, as Sanderson goes seven strong

Pittsfield, MA —  The sun was shining at historical Wahconah Park this evening as the Worcester Bravehearts put another in the win column as they beat the Pittsfield Suns 9-3 to move to 27-15 on the season. Worcester fell 4-1 last night at home to Pittsfield, but bounced back on the road tonight.

The Bravehearts jumped out to an early lead, in the top of the second with the bases loaded and no outs the offense produced back to back singles from Kirk Sidwell and Joe Pesce, followed by a walk from Jon Hansen. A run was plated after a wild pitch, another run off a sacrifice fly from Chris Rinaldi, and a third run off the bat of Edward Haus to make the score 3-0. Dustin Harris then brought home three more runs with a three-run homerun to straight away center, extending the lead to 6-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Suns got on the board when Thomas Hughes led off with a double. With one out, Peter Marren singled to put runners at the corners, and then Hughes was scored on a sacrifice fly by Ivan Nunez to make the lead 8-1. Brian McHale led the seventh inning off with a double. He then moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly from Kyle Cronk made the score 9-2. Severino Simone tripled in the ninth to score their third and final run but it was not enough to come back from being down 6 runs.
Jake Sanderson, the freshman from UCONN got the ball for Worcester. Entering the game with a 1-0 record, Sanderson threw seven full innings, allowing five hits, two runs, and recording four strike outs. Brenden Cournoyer came on in relief for the final two innings, allowing two hits and one run.

When asked about today’s start, Jake Sanderson said “My arm felt pretty good coming out of the gate, just was cruising through the innings trying to work fast.” With the playoffs, right around the corner the UCONN product talked about finishing strong. “Just want to keep the foot on the gas, keep the arm strong, arm healthy and go get it.”

Worcester is back at home Monday July 23, 2018 at 6:30 pm to take on the Brockton Rox and again at home July 24 to face the North Shore Navigators at 6:30 pm.
