Bravehearts Chop Down Knights

Nashua, NH - The Bravehearts returned to play after two consecutive days off to match up with the Nashua Silver Knights. The ‘Hearts got the best of the Knights in a roller coaster 6-5 victory.

Worcester  jumped on the Knights early in the second inning. Jack Gardner singled which was followed by a PJ Barry walk. Nick Martin doubled to center to score Gardner. Mariano Ricciardi then grounded to the second baseman Max Viera. The ball kicked off of Viera and bounced into the outfield allowing both Barry and Martin to score on the error.

The Bravehearts added another run in the fifth. Ricciardi walked to begin the inning which was followed by another error by Viera off the bat of Torres. Tyler Patane walked and Gardner was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in Ricciardi.

Worcester starting pitcher Shawn Babineau went four scoreless innings giving up one hit while striking out four in the no-decision outing.

Another run was added in the sixth for Worcester. Back-to-back doubles by Martin and Torres gave the ‘Hearts their fifth run.

Down by five, Nashua came back in a big way in the eighth to tie the game. Worcester’s reliever Jakob Barker walked the bases loaded to bring up Dylan Jones. Barker walked a fourth consecutive batter bringing in Jared Dupere to score. Brendan Desautels came in for Worcester with the bases loaded and no outs. Desautels allowed a single to Nick Shumski to score Dominic Keegan making it 5-2. Back-to-back groundouts to second base by Luke Beckstein and Jared Arend scored John Mead and Jones. A two-out single by Ben Rounds plated Shumski to tie the game at five.

The Bravehearts answered in the top of the ninth with a solo home-run by Andrew Selima to retake the lead at 6-5. Desautels loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but got out of the inning without allowing a run and earned himself his first win in a Bravehearts uniform.
