Bloomington, IL. In their season finale, the Bloomington Edge took on the Illinois Renegades Sunday afternoon with their eyes on completing the teams first ever undefeated season. The celebration didnt start after the first quarter, but it could have.
Edge quarterback QuinTon Fonville was lighting up the scoreboard early and often completing three first quarter touchdown passes. He connected with Dwiun White twice from 9 and 26 yards out. Fonvilles third scoring toss was to Marcus Lewis for a 23 yard touchdown. At the end of the first quarter the score was 19-0 Edge, and the night would only get longer for the Renegades.
The Renegades had their best chance to score in the second quarter when they drove down to the 5 yard line, but a bad snap pushed them all the way back to midfield. The drive ended one play later when Edge linebacker Mitch Globe pounced on a loose ball and a Renegade turnover.
Domonique Stevenson found the end zone on the ensuing Edge drive with a 16 yard touchdown run pushing the score to 26-0. The Edge continued to do what they have been doing all year and kept scoring. Fonville got his fourth passing touchdown of the game later in the second quarter finding Obasol Olateju for a 10 yard touchdown which increased the Edges lead to 32-0. Edge running back Martez Turner scored on a one yard run on the last play of the second half and the route was on.
The Edge kept up the scoring in the third quarter with Stevensons second touchdown of the game just three minutes into the second half. This one was from two yards out, and increased the Edge lead to 45-0.
Fonville threw for three more scores in the second half. He connected with Dlron Simmons from 29 yards out, White from 17 yards out and Shawn Mitchell from 17 yards out. When the dust settled, the Edge walked off the field with a 65-0 win and an undefeated season. Fonville ended up 14 of 26 for 193 yards passing and 7 touchdowns. The leading rusher for the Edge was Stevenson with 24 yards on three carries and two touchdowns. Dwiuan White was the leading receiver for the edge with 52 yards and 3 touchdowns.
On defense, Globe led the team in tackles with 12, and finished the season as the teams leading tackler. Defensive end Tim Short had his best night in an Edge uniform with 9 total tackles and two sacks. Defensive end Brad Wolf also had a sack and three tackles for loss.
