Doyle & Tandy Go Yard In Rout of Legacy

For the second time this week, the Menlo Park Legacy came to Lincoln for a Thursday night showdown with the Potters, one that would end in a convincing 14-3 victory for the Potters, their third in a row. Jacob Doyle and Jake Tandy would highlight an impressive offensive showing, while five Potter pitchers held down the fort on the mound.

Making the start on the mound was Sierra College’s Anthony Martinez, who held the Legacy to just one run through three innings of work while striking out two. Tonight would be the second of two strong outings this season for Martinez, as he followed up a three hitless inning performance against the Novato Knicks last Saturday, in which he would strike out six batters. Following him in relief would be Liam Golden, who would be the game’s winning pitcher, as Martinez did not meet the four-inning requirement to be eligible for the win. Three more members of the Potters’ staff would follow Golden by throwing five shutout innings to close the ballgame, those being Bobby Romitti, Ken Blankenship, and Preston Brook.

Despite their excellence, pitching would not be the story in this one, as the Potters offense exploded for 14 runs, piggybacking off of a 22 run showing against the Alameda Anchors on Thursday night. Jake Tandy’s RBI single would get the party started in the bottom of the first, followed by a mammoth three-run shot to left by Jacob Doyle. Doyle has appeared in two games with the Potters thus far, and has recorded a home run in each. Four more runs would score across the next three innings, but the game was broken open by another three-run home run, this time by Jake Tandy in the fifth. Tandy has been the staple of the Potters’ offense so far this season, recording three home runs and double-digit RBIs. Other multi-hit nights in this game were recorded by Hasani Johnson and Cole Eaton.

This win is the Potters’ third in a row, and they will go for their fourth against Alpha Prime tomorrow night, which is also Hispanic Heritage Night at the ballpark, with special jerseys being worn and auctioned off. First pitch is slated for 6:35pm.
