Furrey Makes HistoryThe Potters took on the back to back CCL champions, Healdsburg Prune Packers on Tuesday night. Fans packed McBean Stadium, excited to celebrate the second 2-fer Tuesday of the 2023 season. Gabe Maya (LMU) took the mound for the Potters. Maya began the game strong, posting a scoreless first inning of work. The Prune Packers began to rally in the second inning, as they put up three runs on Maya, ending his night. Maya was replaced on the mound by Eric Vasser (Sac City). Vasser worked three and two thirds, allowing three runs. Despite giving up three runs, Vasser continues to display his strikeout ability, racking up five tonight, which puts his K/9 at 24.00 for the season. The Potters' struggles with runners on base continued Tuesday night, as they left a total of twelve runners on base. They racked up nine hits, but failed to score any runs against the Prune Packers. The highlight of the night for the Potters was Trey Furrey (Oklahoma Baptist). As a longtime Potter, Furrey has been hunting the all time hits record for some time. In Tuesday night's action, a line drive single to right put Furrey in the record books. With his 113 career hits, he surpassed Potter legend Will Law for the most hits in Potter history. Despite the historic night from Furrey, the Potters were still held scoreless throughout the entirety of the game, as they fell 8-0 to the Prune Packers. Although it was a shutout, first year manager Jon Peters remains hopeful that the timely hits will eventually come through for the Potters. The Potters hit the road again on Wednesday, to face the Prune Packers once again. Thursday, June 15th, the Potters return to McBean Stadium to close out the series with the Prune Packers. It is another Thirsty Thursday at the yard. First pitch is at 6:35 PM, gates open at 5:30PM. |
