The Lincoln Potters celebrated American independence with a tremendous 12-3 win over the Walnut Creek Crawdads at historic McBean Park filled with fans.

JT Waldon and Brennan Rozell (Long Beach State) each hit two-run freedom four baggers for the Potters, waving an American flag as they rounded the bases.

The Potters captured their first lead in the first inning. After Waldon walked and Trey Furrey (Oklahoma Baptist) reached base on an error, Chase Stanke (Minnesota) slammed a double off the wall scoring both Potters. Nolan McCarthy added another Potter run by hitting an infield single.

The Potters continued their complete performance in the third inning. Starting pitcher Kaden Riccomini (UC Davis) struck a Crawdad out with two men on base and one out. Short stop Nolan Clifford followed by fielding a hard-hit ground ball and beating the Crawdad batter with his throw to first base, preserving Lincoln’s 4-1 lead.

After Jeffrey David (New Mexico) placed a base hit into right field, Waldon’s homer into left field extended the Potter lead to 6-1.

The Potters turned two for the second time of the night in the sixth inning, a quick 3-4-1 double play that kept the Crawdads off the board.

David walked and stole second base to lead Lincoln’s half of the sixth inning. And after Waldon and Furrey singled to load the bases, Stanke hit a sacrifice grounder and Garen Caulfield (Arizona) hit a line drive single to right field scoring the seventh and eighth Potter runs.

Doubles by Caulfield and McCarthy helped tally two additional runs in the eighth inning. And Rozell’s two-run bomb gave the Potters their 12-3 lead.

“They were hungry,” said Manager Ryan Stephens. “They understand how much Fourth of July means to Lincoln and to the Clubhouse. And I think with that focus it translated on the field.”

The Potters will play at the Walnut Creek Crawdads on July 6.
