Potters With Yet Another Comeback Win

By Jordan Georgeson

The Potters had another wild come from behind victory tonight at McBean to beat the Sacramento Yankees 6-5 and improve to 6-0 on the young season. Lincoln played from behind for most of the game as the Yankees got on the board early with a three-run first inning. The Potters closed the gap in the second inning with a run on an RBI from Cameron Carr. The Yankees answered back quickly however with a solo homer in the third inning. The Potters scored two in the bottom of the third and then a pitcher’s duel ensued for most of the remainder of the game. Lincoln’s offense used the help of a two run seventh to tie the game and pulled ahead with a RBI single by Matt Voelker in the bottom of the eighth. This win marks the fourth comeback victory for the Potters this season.

Matt Voelker entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh and hit a crucial sac fly that would bring home a run for the Potters. Voelker remained in the game at first base and brought home the winning run on his single in the eights. Cameron Carr brought home two runs as well, including the tying run in the seventh.

The story of the night was once again the Lincoln bullpen. The bullpen went six innings in relief and only allowed one run on six hits between pitchers Jose Ledesma, Jojo Villareal, and Josh Cohen. Villareal had one of the Potters’ most impressive outings on the mound all season as he struck out five of the six batters he faced and only allowed one hit. Villareal earned the win and closer Josh Cohen earned his second save of the evening. In total, the Potters’ pitching struck out fifteen batters and only gave up three walks.

The Potters hit the road tomorrow for a game against the Gold Sox in Marysville before heading up to Arcata to play a three game series with the Humboldt Crabs. The Potters return home on Wednesday June 9th to face their rivals the Healdsburg Prune Packers.Watch the Potters live on Facebook and listen on Potters Radio via the mixlr app. Also follow along on twitter @LincolnPotters to get live updates!
