REVS' LATE BID FALLS SHORT

In a game that featured three lead changes, the York Revolution came up just short of a comeback victory, falling to the New Britain Bees 8-6 on Tuesday night at PeoplesBank Park.

With Derrick Robinson and Jared Mitchell aboard in the eighth, two away, and the Revs down by two, manager Mark Mason called on Joel Guzman, his first pinch hitter of the season. Midway through the at-bat, Guzman lifted one deep into the night sky, but it hooked just foul down the line in left on its way out of the stadium. Guzman was later retired on a ground out to shortstop, as the bid for late inning heroics came up just wide.

Michael Burgess gave the Revs an initial 1-0 lead in the second with a line drive home run to right field, his fourth long ball of the year.

Ty’Relle Harris got the start for York and was sharp early, but ran into some trouble in the fifth, as the Bees sent ten men to the plate, scoring five, and hitting for the cycle as a team.  The outburst was highlighted by a Yusuke Kajimoto two-run triple and a Jamar Walton two-run homer. Harris finished with seven strikeouts, tying a Revs season high along with Curtis Partch and Frank Gailey, but did not factor in the decision.

The Revs got a run back in the fourth as Travis Witherspoon led off the inning with a triple and came around to score on a Derrick Robinson groundout to shortstop.

Then in the fifth, the Revs loaded the bases with no outs and Isaias Tejeda capitalized, blasting his team-leading sixth home run of the season to left-center to clear the bases, and put the Revs on top 6-5. It was the Revs’ second grand slam on the season, as Guzman hit one on April 27th at Southern Maryland.

The lead was short lived, however, as New Britain surged back in front with a three-run sixth, scoring two off of Luke Westphal and one off of Many Corpas, capped off by back-to-back RBI singles from Mike Crouse and Jovan Rosa, providing the eventual 8-6 final.

The Revs and Bees will do it again on Wednesday night at 6:30 when Logan Williamson (1-2, 4.30) faces off with Kyle Simon (2-2, 6.75). It’s Swim Night presented by YMCA of York County, as well as PeoplesBank Kids Eat Free Wednesday. The pregame show gets you set at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Matt Present on the call on WOYK 1350 as well as online at woyk1350.com, YorkRevsTV.com and on the WOYK app. For tickets visit yorkrevolution.com, call 717-801-HITS, or visit the Apple Chevrolet Ticket office at PeoplesBank Park.
