BEES SHUT OUT REVS IN OPENER

After traveling home from Texas in the wee hours of Monday morning, the York Revolution ran into a hot New Britain team that was ready and waiting after a series with Lancaster, as York was shut out 10-0 at PeoplesBank Park on Monday evening.

After batting .321 and averaging 7.2 runs over the previous five games, the Revs (12-19) were limited to just three hits on the evening, while the Bees exploded for 18 base knocks on the night, reaching base in every inning but the eighth.

The Bees stuck first against Victor Mateo in the second inning on three singles, with Connor Bierfeldt coming into score on a wild pitch, and then Jamar Walton singling in Jonathan Griffin.

They extended their lead to 6-0 in the third, as the first six men in the inning reached base. The Bees belted three doubles in the inning, sending eight men to the plate with Jovan Rosa, Craig Maddox, and Bierfeldt all coming through with RBIs.

Rosa had a three-hit game, tacking on a two-run double in the sixth. Then in the seventh, Bierfeldt, who ended up a home run shy of the cycle, led off with a triple and scored on a sac fly.  A Steve Carrillo bloop RBI single later in the inning extended their lead to 10-0.

Michael Burgess, Carlos Truinfel and Isaias Tejeda accounted for the Revs’ three hits, all singles, as the Revs mustered just six baserunners on the evening.

Joe Van Meter and Michael Click each worked a scoreless frame to close out the game for York.

The Revs are back in action Tuesday night for the second game of the four-game set with the Bees. Ty’Relle Harris (1-2, 7.96) will take the ball for York, while the Bees counter with right hander Eric Fornataro (0-2, 7.17). First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show at 6:10 p.m. on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, the WOYK app, and YorkRevsTV.com.

It’s WellSpan Sports Medicine Silver Slugger Tuesday, as well as York County Literacy Council Buck-A-Book Night.  Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
