REVS DOUBLED UP BY DUCKS

(May 17, 2017 – Central Islip, NY):  The York Revolution dropped their second straight, falling to the Long Island Ducks 6-3 on Wednesday evening in front of 5,104 fans at Bethpage Ballpark.  York will look to avoid the sweep on Thursday before the road trip continues on to Sugar Land for the weekend.

Long Island grabbed an early lead on a two-out RBI double to left by Elmer Reyes in the bottom of the first, and made it 2-0 in the third when Reyes came through with a two-out RBI single to center.

Anthony Vega tripled to right-center to keep the fourth inning alive, setting up a Dan Lyons RBI single to center to make it 3-0.  The triple was the first of two on the night for Vega who finished 3-for-3 to lead the Long Island offense.

Alex Burg gave the Ducks a big cushion with a two-run double down the left field line with two outs in the fifth as Long Island built a 5-0 lead.

After stranding two runners in each of the first two innings, Ducks starter John Brownell settled in and faced the minimum from his first out of the second through his second out in the fifth.

The Revs would get on the board in the sixth as Carlos Triunfel lined a two-run single to left-center, notching his first Revolution hit in his first game played since signing on Tuesday, and breaking up the shutout.  The base hit ended the evening for Brownell (2-0) who was charged with two runs on four hits in 5.2 innings, but the righty added to his Ducks record with his 48th victory all-time in a Long Island uniform despite issuing four walks.

Long Island recovered one of those runs in the bottom of the sixth when Delta Cleary, Jr. lined an RBI double to left-center.  All six Long Island runs scored with two outs.

Michael Burgess helped the Revs inch closer with an RBI single to right-center in the seventh, but Long Island’s bullpen quieted the Revs’ comeback the rest of the way.

Revs right-hander Victor Mateo (0-3) suffered the loss, charged with five runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings after allowing just three total earned runs over his first four starts.

Notes: Mateo picked off runners in each of the first two innings, catching Fehlandt Lentini for his first out of the game and then instigating a caught stealing of Vega in the second.  Mateo already has logged three pickoffs or caught-stealings himself, tying him for fourth most among right-handers in Revs history through only five starts.  Burgess went 1-for-3 with an RBI and two walks and is now 7-for-15 at the plate over his last five games.  Isaias Tejeda went 2-for-4 with a double and has now reached base safely in 14 consecutive games.  York righty Ty’Relle Harris (0-2, 8.21) will face Long Island right-hander Matt Larkins (0-2, 6.50) on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. in the tenth matchup between the Revs and Ducks over York’s first 26 games of the season.  York is just 2-7 against Long Island, and will look to salvage the finale as the teams do not meet again until July 31.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK app beginning at 6:15 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
