REVS BLANK DUCKS

(May 8, 2017 – Central Islip, NY): Frank Gailey and three relievers combined on a gem as the York Revolution logged their first shutout victory of the season, blanking the Long Island Ducks 4-0 on Monday evening at Bethpage Ballpark.  The win snaps a two-game skid for the Revs (7-10) who will go for a series win when the series continues on Tuesday night.

Gailey was matched by Rafael Perez into the sixth inning with the game scoreless.  Perez was the headliner to that point, having not allowed a baserunner through five innings.  It came within one out of matching the longest perfect game bid against the Revs in franchise history.

Bryan Pounds worked a 3-1 count and ripped a leadoff single to left to begin the sixth, breaking up the perfecto.  Angel Franco followed with a double down the left field line, with Pounds hustling to score all the way from first base for the game’s first run.  Ryan Dent sacrificed Franco to third base, but with the infield in, Perez recorded a groundout for the second out of the inning.  Jose Constanza assured the second run would score, however, slashing a first pitch RBI single to left with two outs, giving York a 2-0 lead.

Isaias Tejeda slammed a line drive into the Revs bullpen behind the left field fence for his second home run of the season, increasing the lead to 3-0 in the seventh.

Pounds added an RBI single to right field in the ninth for the final margin.  It was another big two-out RBI hit for the Revs.  Joel Guzman and Michael Burgess had started the inning with singles and Tejeda made a bid to increase the lead but his hard smash was caught at third base for the first out, helping reliever Zac Treece to nearly escape.

Gailey (3-1) allowed just three singles and two walks over six shutout innings, and struck out seven batters to match a Revs season-best.  The lefty worked out of a two-out bases loaded jam in the first, and set the tone by starting his own double play to end the second and then striking out the side in the third.  The Ducks nearly grabbed the lead in the fourth, but Alonzo Harris made the early season defensive play of the year, as the centerfielder ran down a deep drive in left-center by Alex Burg, crashing into the fence to complete the incredible grab and keep it scoreless at the time.

Hawtin Buchanan, Jarret Martin, and Brad Allen all worked scoreless innings out of the bullpen to close it out.

Notes: Gailey’s three wins are tied for the league lead.  It marks the third time in four starts that Gailey has limited opponents to one run or fewer.  York had been 0-4 vs. Long Island, after being swept at home by the Ducks the previous week.  The Revs improve to 2-2 on their current road trip, having won both series openers.  Long Island falls to 1-6 at home, having dropped four straight.  York righty Steve Janas (1-2, 8.76) makes the start on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m., against Ducks right-hander Dennis O’Grady (1-0, 1.50).  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK app beginning at 6:15 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
