(May 6, 2017 – Bridgewater, NJ):  Ty’Relle Harris took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but the York Revolution fell to the Somerset Patriots, 3-2 on Saturday night in front of 5,521 fans at TD Bank Ballpark.  The loss sets up a rubber match in the three-game series on Sunday afternoon.

 

Harris was spectacular in his second start of the season, logging the second-longest no-hit bid in Revs history.  He had issued just two walks for his only baserunners of the night and had thrown just 71 pitches through six innings.

 

With York ahead 2-0, Somerset’s Olmo Rosario broke up the no-hitter with a double to left-center leading off the bottom of the seventh.  Harris came back to retire Bryan LaHair on a fly out, but a walk to Jerry Sands and a steal by Rosario put runners at the corners.  Carlos Guzman then hit a sharp one-hopper to second for a potential inning-ending double play ball, but the ball took a hop off of Alonzo Harris, as the error made it a 2-1 game and put runners at the corners again.  Yovan Gonzalez followed with a perfectly executed hit-and-run single through the right side, tying the game at 2-2.

 

Revs reliever Brad Allen came up huge to keep the score tied.  Alfredo Rodriguez attempted a squeeze bunt for the lead, but Allen came off the mound to make a barehanded pickup on a ball spinning away from him and threw home for the out.  Allen then retired Scott Kelly on a sharp comebacker to the mound, making a slick grab to end the inning before also working a scoreless eighth.

 

The Revs threatened with two outs in the eighth as Joel Guzman singled and Michael Burgess walked, but Somerset reliever Rick Teasley recorded an inning-ending strikeout.  Kyler Newby (1-0) then struck out the side in the ninth to pick up the win.

 

The Patriots set the table in the bottom of the ninth as Sands took a leadoff walk and Guzman served a single into shallow left-center to put runners at first and third.  With the infield in, Gonzalez chopped a high bouncer over the leaping attempt of shortstop Angel Franco for the game-winner.

 

York lefty Luke Westphal (0-1) suffered the loss, charged with his first run in eight appearances.  He previously had allowed just one hit in 7.2 innings.

 

The Revs struck first in the top of the second, as Tejeda led off with a single to center and Franco yanked a single to right.  Tejeda advanced to third and came home when Guzman’s throw from right field sailed past second for an error.  Franco advanced to second on the play but was doubled off on a line out as the Revs settled for the 1-0 lead.

 

York had a chance to add on in the sixth as Travis Witherspoon and Harris led off with singles, but a caught stealing helped to unravel the threat.  The Revs did make it 2-0 an inning later, scoring in the seventh when Derrick Robinson beat Rodriguez’ throw from short on a bobbled grounder, allowing a run to cross.

 

Harris took a no-decision, allowing two runs (one earned) on just two hits in 6.1 innings.  Of his 19 outs, 14 came on fly balls including six handled by infielders.  He worked four 1-2-3 innings on the night.

 

Somerset starter Tyler Cloyd struck out seven in five innings, including four in-a-row at one point, and retired his final 11 batters, allowing just one unearned run.

 

Notes: The only longer no-hit bid in Revs history was a 6.1-inning effort by Brett Tomko on April 20, 2013 vs. Bridgeport.  The team also had a combined six-inning bid on July 5, 2015 at Bridgeport.  The loss is the first by the Revs in five games vs. Somerset on the season (4-1).  Somerset is 10-1 against the rest of the league.  York lefty Logan Williamson (0-0, 2.46) starts Sunday’s tilt, opposite Patriots lefty Logan Darnell (1-1, 6.00) at 1:05 p.m.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK app beginning at 12:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
