(August 18, 2018) - Five York Revolution pitchers combined to limit the Somerset Patriots to just four hits as the Revs grabbed a 4-2 victory on Saturday night in front of 6,160 fans at TD Bank Ballpark.

 

After a 91-minute rain delay at the outset, the Revs got off to a quick start, plating two runs against Patriots starter Nate Roe in the top of the first inning. Melky Mesa opened the scoring with an RBI double down the left field line for the game's first run, and Jared Mitchell added a two-out RBI single to right. 

 

Making his second start after 36 relief outings, Roe (4-3) lasted just one inning.

 

York extended its lead in the third as Welington Dotel singled to center with one out, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Alfonzo Reda. That set up a sac fly to left off the bat of Ryan Dent, bringing Dotel home for a 3-0 lead.

 

Revs starter Carl Brice took a one-hit shutout into the fifth in his third outing with York, logging his longest start since joining the club.

 

Nate Coronado led off the home fifth with an opposite field homer to right-center, and after hitting Matt Oberste with a pitch, Brice was lifted, having given the team four-plus strong innings (one run, two hits, three walks, two strike outs).

 

Reliever James Pugliese induced a double play on a failed bunt try by Reda and retired Justin Pacchioli on a ground out, needing just five pitches to record three outs against two batters faced to take care of the fifth inning.

 

Pugliese (2-1) recorded three ground outs in the sixth on six pitches, all strikes, earning the win after recording a total of six outs on five batters faced, needing just 11 pitches (10 strikes) to handle two innings.

 

Coronado connected on a solo homer to center, his second of the night, with two outs in the seventh but reliever Michael Click retired his other three batters faced in the inning as the lead stood at 3-2.

 

Ricardo Gomez fired a scoreless eighth, striking out Alfredo Rodriguez to end the inning with the tying run at second.

 

Alonzo Harris led off the ninth with a bunt single to first, setting the stage for what had been an elusive insurance run as York missed on opportunities in both the sixth and seventh. Harris advanced to second on a passed ball and was bunted to third by Casilla. After an intentional walk to Mesa who stole second, Telvin Nash lifted a sac fly to shallow right, deep enough to bring home the speedy Harris as right fielder Justin Trapp's throw sailed wide.

 

Junior Rincon stranded two in the bottom of the ninth, retiring Oberste on a fly out to center for his 10th save and first since June 22.

 

Notes: The 91-minute rain delay is only the sixth-longest of the season for the Revs. Mesa has 17 RBI in his last 13 games and now has nine extra-base hits in his last 12 games, batting .349 (15-for-43) on that stretch. That does not count a solo homer hit in Friday's suspended game. Nash has 17 RBI in his first 14 games. Rincon joins Grant Sides (13 saves) as the first duo with double digit saves for the Revs since 2012 (Gomez 17, R.J. Rodriguez 13). It is the third time in franchise history the Revs have had two pitchers log double digits in saves, as it also occurred in 2011 (Michael Nix 18, Rodriguez 10). With two scoreless innings, Pugliese has held the opposition to just one hit in seven scoreless innings over his last five outings, and just one run in 10.2 innings over his last eight appearances. Pugliese has earned the win in each of the Revs' last two completed games (Friday's contest was suspended in the sixth and will be resumed on September 7). York has won back-to-back games and three of its last four, improving to 18-18 in the second half and 50-49 overall.
