(June 26, 2018) - The York Revolution fell to the Long Island Ducks, 5-3 on Tuesday evening at Bethpage Ballpark as the four-game series now sits even at one win apiece.

 

The Revs grabbed an early 3-0 lead. York scored the game's first run in the top of the second on a two-out RBI single to right by Jose Cuevas, plating Jared Mitchell who led off the inning with a walk and a stolen base. An inning later, Welington Dotel singled to center with two outs and Melky Mesa blasted a two-run homer to deep left, putting the Revs in front by three.

 

Long Island scored the next five unanswered runs, however, including two in the third and two more in the fourth to go in front.

 

Daniel Fields led off the bottom of the third with a first pitch homer to right-center to put the Ducks on the board. A walk to Dan Lyons and a single by Jordany Valdespin put runners at the corners. Revs starter Pat McCoy turned a comeback ground ball into a 1-5-2-5-6 double play, erasing both runners, but after Emilio Bonifacio advanced to second on the rundown, Travis Snider drove him in on a two-out double to right-center, bringing the Ducks within 3-2.

 

Lyons blooped a two-out RBI single to left-center to tie the game in the fourth, and Valdespin followed with a grounder up the middle for the go-ahead knock as the Ducks took a 4-3 lead. Both runs were unearned after an error cost the Revs a chance at an inning-ending double play earlier in the frame.

 

Long Island added an insurance run in the seventh as Snider doubled to right-center and scored on a broken bat single to left by Lew Ford, his first hit in 22 at-bats against the Revs on the season. Center fielder Travis Witherspoon denied the Ducks of at least two more runs, robbing pinch-hitter David Washington on a great diving catch on a line drive to end the inning.

 

The Revs were unable to answer offensively. Ducks spot starter Lee Sosa worked the first three innings, while five Long Island relievers combined to limit the Revs to just one hit over the final six innings, all scoreless.

 

Branden Pinder (1-0) claimed the win with a perfect fourth in his Atlantic League debut. Francisco Rodriguez, who sits fourth on Major League Baseball's all-time career saves list, notched his 11th save in the Atlantic League with a 1-2-3 ninth to close it out.

 

McCoy (1-3) suffered the loss, charged with four runs (two earned) over 5.2 innings. He walked only one and struck out four.

 

York righty Joe Van Meter (2-2, 3.63) faces Ducks southpaw Bennett Parry (4-0, 1.97) on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, The New WOYK app, and WOYK 1350 on YouTube beginning at 6:15 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.

 

Notes: Mesa's homer is his second in three games as the Revs' designated hitter now owns a six-game hitting streak. The Revs fall back to .500 at 27-27 while the Ducks move back over .500 at 28-27, snapping a three-game skid.
