REVS DROP FINALE

(June 24, 2018) -- The York Revolution dropped the rubber match of their three-game series with the Sugar Land Skeeters, losing 13-5 Sunday afternoon at PeoplesBank Park.

Right-hander Matt Vogel made his season debut for the Revs and the Skeeters took advantage of the 22-year-old, scoring six times in the first inning. Vogel lasted just one-third of an inning and walked four batters before being pulled from the game.

Denis Phipps’ bases-loaded walk brought home the first run of the game before Barrett Barnes drove in two runs with an RBI single. After two runs scored on an error by Jose Cuevas on a grounder to third base, Colin Walsh hit an RBI single to cap off the inning, giving Sugar Land a 6-0 lead after a half inning.

It stayed that way until the middle innings because of reliever Jailen Peguero’s strong relief outing. Peguero worked a season high three and two-thirds innings for the Revs to keep the Skeeters at six runs. Peguero got the final two outs of the first inning despite allowing all three of his inherited runners to score, and went on to pitch scoreless frames from the second through the fourth inning.

The Revs got on the board in the third when they hung a three-spot on Skeeters starter Ben Griset. Jared Mitchell plated two runs with a single to right field and Jose Cuevas added a sac fly to right, cutting the deficit in half at 6-3.

The Revs stayed hot at the plate in the fourth. After Alexi Casilla doubled to right-center with two outs, Melky Mesa drilled a two-run home run over the batter’s eye in dead center field, bringing the Revs with one run at 6-5.

Unfortunately for the Revs, that’s as close as the game would get. After the Revs left two runners on base in the bottom of the fifth, the Skeeters bats immediately got going again.

The Skeeters put up four runs in the top of the sixth thanks to Walsh’s RBI triple, an RBI single from Matt Chavez, and Derek Norris’ two-run homer to left-center, making it a 10-5 game.

Sugar Land added three more runs in the seventh on three hits to take a commanding 13-5 advantage.

The Skeeters’ bullpen held the Revs scoreless over the final five innings to close it out.

Vogel (0-1) suffered the loss for the Revs while reliver Ben Rowen (2-0) earned the win for the Skeeters.

Up Next: The Revs (26-26) will give the ball to RHP Mitch Atkins in Game 1 of their four-game series on the road against the Long Island Ducks starting at 6:35 p.m. on Monday evening. The Ducks will go with RHP John Brownell on the mound. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, The New WOYK app, and WOYK 1350 on YouTube beginning at 6:30 p.m. immediately following The Baltimore Baseball Show with Dan Connolly.
