REVS DENIED SWEEP

(June 21, 2018) -- The York Revolution came up short in their bid for a four-game sweep of the Road Warriors, losing 8-3 Thursday night in front of 3,802 fans at PeoplesBank Park. The Revs did win the series, earning their seventh series win of the season by taking three out of four, and will host the Sugar Land Skeeters as the homestand continues on Friday night.

The Revs got on the board first on Jose Cuevas’ sac fly off Road Warriors starter Felix Baez, scoring Jared Mitchell in the bottom of the second.

The Road Warriors came right back in the top of the third, pushing across three runs against Revs starter Joe Van Meter. After Matt Hibbert led off with a double, Gustavo Pierre brought him home with an RBI single to tie the game. Later in the inning, Geraldo Valentin hit a two-out, two-RBI double down the first base line into the right field corner, giving the Road Warriors a 3-1 lead.

In the fourth, the Road Warriors added two runs on Osvaldo Martinez’ RBI single and Jorge Fernandez’ RBI double, making it a 5-1 game.

Down 5-1 in the sixth, the Revs got to Baez, who cruised through the first five innings. After Travis Witherspoon led off with a bloop single to right, Alexi Casilla doubled off the Arch Nemesis to bring in Witherspoon from first base. With two outs, Melky Mesa singled to left to score Casilla, bringing the score to 6-3, but that was as close as the Revs would get.

Jailen Peguero fired two scoreless innings to keep it a three-run game, but the Road Warriors tacked on two more runs in the ninth on RBI singles by Melvin Rodriguez and Isaac Wenrich.

Baez (2-5) earned the win for the Road Warriors, allowing three runs on four hits in 5.1 innings.

Van Meter (2-2) suffered the loss, charged with five runs on nine hits in 3.2 innings.

Notes: Ricardo Gomez pitched the ninth inning for the Revs, becoming the third pitcher in Atlantic League history to reach 300 career appearances, joining Ross Peeples and Ben Grezlovski.

Up Next: The Revs (25-24) start a three-game home series with the Skeeters Friday at 6:30 p.m. LHP Robert Carson will start for the Revs and be opposed by LHP James Russell for the Skeeters. It is Summer Kick-off Night at PeoplesBank Park. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Revs Ticket Office.
