(June 12, 2018) - The York Revolution were unable to come up with the tying run, dropping the opening game of an eight-game, six-day road trip to the Somerset Patriots, 2-1 on Tuesday evening in front of 4,443 fans at TD Bank Ballpark. The Revs fall to 19-19 on the season, and will look to snap a four-game skid on Wednesday when the two teams square off in a doubleheader.

 

Somerset struck first, plating a run with two outs in the bottom of the second inning as Julio Borbon fought off a jam shot RBI single to left-center for a 1-0 Patriots lead.

 

The Revs answered in the top of the fourth. Melky Mesa and Ryan Dent reached on back-to-back singles with one out. Jose Cuevas followed with a fielder's choice grounder toward second base. Justin Trapp's throw back to second sailed wide, allowing Mesa to come home on the error, tying the game at 1-1.

 

Revs righty Joe Van Meter was strong in his third start since moving to the rotation, but an Aaron Dudley double to right-center leading off the home sixth set up Somerset's go-ahead run. After Alfredo Rodriguez was hit by a pitch, Endy Chavez sacrificed both runners over, setting up Adam Weisenburger who lined a sac fly to center, plating Dudley to give the Patriots a 2-1 lead.

 

Travis Witherspoon and Jared Mitchell drew walks with two outs in the seventh, but reliever Mike Antonini retired Alexi Casilla on a pop up to keep the Patriots ahead.

 

Logan Kensing and Ryan Kelly each allowed only a single in working scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth, respectively, with Kelly claiming his seventh save.

 

Van Meter (1-1) suffered the tough luck loss, allowing ten hits (nine singles) but only two runs in 5.2 innings. He walked just one and struck out seven.

 

Luke Westphal tossed 1.1 scoreless frames out of the bullpen, and Tyler Cravy fired a 1-2-3 eighth to keep the game close.

 

Patriots starter Rick Teasley (2-2) picked up the win, limiting the Revs to one unearned run on four hits over six innings. The lefty stranded a runner at third in three of the first four innings before retiring his final eight batters.

 

Mesa and Casilla posted the only multi-hit games for the Revs offense, each going 2-for-4. York was limited to six hits as a team, all singles.

 

Notes: Van Meter has walked just two while striking out 21 in 15.2 innings over his three starts. Revs catcher Tyler Clark threw out both attempting base stealers and has now thrown out 13 of 23 base runners on the season. Westphal also initiated a caught stealing on a pickoff move to first, and is the first Revs pitcher to log two pickoffs/caught stealings this season. Both of Casilla's hits were infield hits, giving him a team-leading 16 infield hits on the year, ten more than any other Revs batter. York has been held to just seven runs on its current four-game skid, including just one run over the last two games. York pitching has only allowed eight runs over the last three games, including just two runs in each of the last two contests. Mitchell saw a 15-game hitting streak snapped; it was the league's longest active streak and second longest overall streak this season behind teammate Welington Dotel's 17-gamer. Mitchell batted .371 on the streak. York righty Dominic Severino (2-3, 5.49) faces Somerset right-hander Kyle Davies (0-2, 5.06) in the opener of Wednesday's doubleheader at 5:05 p.m. Revs lefty Logan Williamson makes his season debut in the nightcap, opposite Patriots southpaw Duane Below (1-2, 3.97).
