REVS BLAST ROAD WARRIORS

(May 25, 2018) — The York Revolution scored early and often and launched a season-high four home runs en route to a 9-1 blowout win over the Road Warriors on Friday night at PeoplesBank Park. The Revs have won back-to-back games and move within five games of first place in the Freedom Division.

Jared Mitchell set the tone for the game with a leadoff home run to left-center field in the bottom of the first off Road Warriors starter Raul Rivera, making it 1-0 Revs. It was Mitchell’s third homer of the season and second leading off a game.

The Revs got another run in the second when Mitchell drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 2-0.

Michael Burgess added a run in the third on a tape-measure blast of a solo homer to right field, his team-leading fifth of the season, to make it a 3-0 game.

Revs starter Jay Gause was locked in early and worked five strong innings, allowing just one unearned run on three hits.

The Road Warriors only run came on a Gause throwing error on a pickoff move to first base in the fifth, which allowed Alfredo Silverio to score from third.

Up 3-1 in the seventh, Melky Mesa provided some insurance with a two-out single. The hit brought home one run, and another scored on Anthony Ray’s throwing error from the outfield, pushing the Revs’ lead to 5-1.

In the eighth, Rubi Silva and Welington Dotel each belted two-run home runs in a four-run inning, both collecting their first of the season. The Revs sent nine batters to the plate and put the game out of reach at 9-1.

Dotel extended his hitting streak to eight games while Silva picked up his third straight multi-hit game. It was the third consecutive game in which the Revs posted double-digit hits, and second straight with 14. It was also the second straight game in which five different Revs hitters had a multi-hit game.

Gause (3-0) earned his team-best third win of the season, while Rivera (1-3) suffered the loss, going six innings and allowing just three runs on six hits.

Robert Carson, Ricardo Gomez, Grant Sides and Junior Rincon combined to throw four shutout innings with six strikeouts in relief of Gause.

The Revs (12-11) and Road Warriors (6-20) will play Game 2 of their series Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.  York lefty Ross Detwiler (2-1, 2.38) faces Road Warriors southpaw Kelvin Villa (0-2, 4.83).  It is "Burgers, Brews, and Booms" at PeoplesBank Park on Saturday night, featuring Post Game Fireworks.  Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Revs Ticket Office.

Notes: York is now tied for second in the league with 21 home runs as a team.  The Revs have scored at least seven runs and have won by at least seven runs in three of their last five games.
