(May 23, 2018) -- What turned out to be the longest game of the young season ended in heartbreak for the York Revolution, as they dropped Game 2 of their series with the Lancaster Barnstormers, 4-3 in 12 innings Wednesday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
The Barnstormers scored first in what ended up being a four-hour game. Joey Terdoslavich belted a two-run home run over the wall in right field in the bottom of the first off Revs starter Dominic Severino, giving Lancaster a 2-0 lead.
Down 2-0 in the third, the Revs got one back when Welington Dotel singled home Rubi Silva with the bases loaded and one out. Michael Burgess was the next batter and with the bases still loaded, hit into an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play which ended the Revs' threat for a breakout inning. The Revs hit four straight singles in the inning but only managed to score the one run.
The Barnstormers extended their lead in the fourth on Ryan Casteel’s RBI single to left to make it a 3-1 game.
In the sixth, the Revs hit three singles but failed to score a run. Luis Cruz struck out looking as the go-ahead run at the plate with two outs to end the threat.
Down 3-1 in the eighth with two outs and nobody on, the Revs strung together a rally. After Jose Cuevas’ double down the third base line, Cruz smashed a two-out RBI triple to the wall in right-center field. Ryan Dent tied the game, 3-3, with an RBI single up the middle. Both hits came off Stormers’ reliever Kevin Munson. Matt Reynolds replaced Munson and got Jared Mitchell to ground out with runners on first and third to end the inning.
With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, Revs reliever Grant Sides stranded the bases loaded, retiring Rico Noel on a fielder's choice at third to send the game into extra innings.
Junior Rincon pitched scoreless 10th and 11th frames for the Revs while Garret Granitz pitched a scoreless 10th and Jared Lakind a scoreless 11th for the Barnstormers.
After Lakind retired the Revs in order in the 12th, Tyler Cravy came on to pitch the bottom of the inning for the Revs and allowed a leadoff double down the left field line to Noel. With runners at first and third and one out, Blake Gailen dropped down a squeeze bunt in front of where Alexi Casilla was playing at second base for a walkoff RBI single, giving the Barnstormers a 4-3 win and their franchise record 12th straight victory.
Cravy (0-1) suffered the loss for the Revs while Lakind (1-1) earned the win for the Stormers.
The two clubs will play the finale of their three-game series Thursday at 11 a.m. Zac Grotz gets the ball for York while Tommy Shirley gets the nod for Lancaster. Notes: The 12-inning contest was the longest for the Revs since the 2016 season. York slips to 4-5 against Lancaster on the season. The Revs fall to 10-11 overall, under .500 for just the second time (4-5 on May 5). Through Thursday, York will have played 10 of its first 22 games against Lancaster. Severino did not issue a walk for the third straight start; his three runs allowed in six innings matched his most allowed in any of his first five starts, good for a third consecutive quality start.
