REVS SHUT OUT STORMERS

(May 6, 2018) — The York Revolution (5-5) used four pitchers to combine for a four-hit shutout Sunday afternoon in a 4-0 win over the Lancaster Barnstormers (6-4) at Clipper Magazine Stadium, salvaging a win in the three-game series. The Revs ended Lancaster’s five-game winning streak as well as their own four-game losing skid.

Revs starter Jay Gause and Barnstormers starter Brooks Hall were locked in a pitchers duel early on as both hurlers traded throwing zeros on the scoreboard through the first four innings.

Leading off the top of the fifth, Rubi Silva smoked a triple over the head of Darian Sanford in center field. With two outs, Jared Mitchell came through in the clutch with a line drive single to right field to plate Silva. Travis Witherspoon added an infield single to drive in another run to make it 2-0 York.

Gause went five shutout innings for the second time in as many starts, extending his scoreless-inning streak to 12 consecutive frames. Gause struck out six and walked just one.

Hall went five innings as well, allowing two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and a walk.  He was nearly unhittable early as eight of his first ten outs came on strikeouts.

The two starters combined for 12 strikeouts through the game’s first three innings.

The Revs added to their lead in the seventh when Mitchell laced a double down the left field line to drive in a run off Stormers’ reliever John Anderson. He later scored on a throwing error by Lancaster third baseman Carlos Garcia on a grounder hit by Witherspoon, making it 4-0 Revs.

Robert Carson, who pitched the sixth and seventh, logged two shutout innings in relief of Gause. Jake Ezell followed with a scoreless eighth and Ricardo Gomez finished off the game by retiring the Barnstormers in order in the ninth.

Gause (2-0) earned the win for York and Hall (0-1) suffered the loss for Lancaster.

The Revs now have two shutout wins on the season, both in games started by Gause.

The Revs have an off day Monday before starting a two-game series with the Blue Crabs in Southern Maryland Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m.  Left-hander Ross Detwiler (0-0, 3.00) is scheduled to make the start for York.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, The New WOYK app, and WOYK 1350 on YouTube with Darrell Henry and Michael Marcantonini on the call beginning at 6:15 p.m.

Revs Notes: Left fielder Jose Tabata was hit by a pitch on the forearm in the second inning and left the game. Infielder Omar Obegron, who joined the team on Sunday morning, replaced Tabata.  York catcher Tyler Clark completed a strikeout double play, throwing out Ryan Casteel attempting to steal in the second inning; it was Clark's fourth runner thrown out in as many starts, and the Revs' sixth runner thrown out in ten games.  The Revs improve to 4-3 vs. Lancaster on the season.  Carson has totaled seven scoreless innings in four outings to begin the year.  Ezell has totaled six shutout innings in five appearances, having allowed only one hit.  The game was delayed 22 minutes due to rain in the second inning, marking the first rain delay of the season for the Revs.
