'FISH EVEN SERIES

(September 2, 2017 – Bridgeport, Ct.):  The York Revolution saw their three-game winning streak snapped with a 10-5 loss to the Bridgeport Bluefish on Saturday night at Harbor Yard.  The Revs fall to 32-24 in the second half, as their first place lead in the Freedom Division shrinks to half a game with 14 games remaining in the regular season.

York struck first on a Dayron Varona RBI double to the left-center gap in the top of the second, grabbing a 1-0 lead.

Bridgeport responded with a two-out RBI single to center from Andrew Lambo, squaring things at 1-1.

The Revs jumped ahead 4-1 in the third, as Jared Mitchell kept the inning alive with a base hit to right center, and Isaias Tejeda slammed a line drive three-run homer to left field, his 17th of the season.

The Bluefish again answered in their half of the inning.  Luis Hernandez lined a leadoff home run to left, his fifth of the season and second in as many games.  D’Arby Myers followed with an infield hit, and scored on a two-out wild pitch to bring the Bluefish within 4-3.

York plated an unearned run in the fourth as Varona led off with a single, stole second, and scored on a two-out throwing error by Hernandez from shortstop.

For the third consecutive inning, the Bluefish answered back in their half, this time going in front.  Lambo worked a walk to start things and Angel Rosa singled, setting up Hernandez for a sacrifice bunt, advancing runners to second and third with one out.  Righty Jacob Ezell (0-1) replaced starter Jared Gaynor, and was greeted with an RBI infield hit from Myers, cutting the lead to 5-4.  Myers stole second, prompting a throw which allowed Rosa to steal home on the play, tying the game.  After a ground out advanced Myers to third, a wild pitch brought him home with the go-ahead run as the Bluefish took a 6-5 lead.

Bridgeport plated two more in the sixth on an error and a Sean Burroughs RBI single.  Gustavo Molina added a homer to left field, leading off the seventh, and Jonathan Galvez closed the scoring on an RBI double to left in the eighth.

The Revs were denied of an opportunity on a great play by Rosa at second base in the fifth.  Down a run, Mitchell greeted reliever Zac Grotz with a leadoff double off the left field wall.  Grotz induced a ground ball toward the middle off the bat of Tejeda, and Rosa lunged to apply a tag on Mitchell before throwing to first for a double play.  Grotz (3-3) totaled three scoreless innings to earn the win and retired his final seven batters.  The Revs were held without another hit by the Bridgeport bullpen until Chase Simpson doubled with one out in the ninth.

Notes: Tejeda has seven RBI in two games in the series, and increases his season total to 77 RBI, third most in the league.  Varona (2-for-4) is now 11-for-24 (.458) on a seven-game hitting streak.  The two teams play a doubleheader on Sunday at 1:12 p.m.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK app beginning at 12:50 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
