SEPTEMBER 1 UPDATE!: PeoplesBank announced today that it will match the money raised from ticket sales to the Revolution’s game next Wednesday night, September 6, to be used by the Red Cross for flood relief in Texas. Donations from ticket sales have instantly been DOUBLED.

(August 30) - The York Revolution will donate all ticket proceeds from their September 6 game to flood-relief efforts in the Houston area through the American Red Cross, and Bailey Coach will use the game as a collection point for donations of hygiene and baby products, the organizations announced today.

“By next week the spotlight will already start to fade as most Americans move on to the next crisis,” said American Red Cross York Chapter Executive Director Matt Leininger. “But people in the Houston area will be living with the effects of this disaster for months and, in some cases, years. It’s critical to keep up the momentum and concern that Yorkers have already shown to help their distant neighbors.”

York Revolution President Eric Menzer said the effects of Hurricane Harvey hit particularly close to home for the Revolution, as the Atlantic League has a team in Sugar Land, part of the Houston metro area.

“We all know people who work and play for the Skeeters,” said Menzer. “Some of us were there to help out when they opened the ballpark. We see them at league meetings, and we know many of the players and coaches who are here several times a year.”

Baily Coach is already engaged in relief efforts through FEMA contracts and delivered an initial wave of supplies with its first buses that traveled to the area. Additional items collected, including those at the Revolution game, will be transported to Houston on September 7. John Bailey, President of Bailey Coach, said he was overwhelmed by the initial response of York County residents.

“I have always known that Yorkers are generous people,” Bailey said, “but in recent days we have received an incredible number of donations and calls to help people we don’t even know. It really reaffirms the best about York.”

Bailey and Menzer stressed that next Wednesday’s game will be another opportunity for Yorkers to display that generosity. The Revolution will take on the Long Island Ducks, and, again, all ticket proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross, which will direct the donation to flood relief efforts. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and tickets can be purchased at www.yorkrevolution.com, by calling (717) 801-HITS, or in the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office at the ballpark.

Bailey Coach will be at PeoplesBank Park that evening to collect donations to the people in the Houston area. To address the specific needs of residents, Bailey volunteers will accept donations of hygiene and baby products, specifically diapers, baby food, feminine hygiene products, toothpaste, and deodorant. They will NOT be accepting clothing, linens, blankets, and other similar items in this drive. Bailey Coach will transport all donated items to the Houston area for distribution by the United Way.
