REVS FALL TO SKEETERS

Steve Janas and Mitch Talbot matched each other pitch for pitch in the early going, but one mistake was the difference as the York Revolution were handed a 3-1 loss by the Sugar Land Skeeters on Saturday night at PeoplesBank Park.

Janas tossed his team-leading eighth quality start of the season, giving up just three runs over six innings while striking out three, but suffered the tough luck loss.

Talbot was magnificent. The Sugar Land right hander gave up just two hits in eight innings of work, striking out a season-high 10 while facing just two over the minimum. Both hits allowed came off the bat of Jared Mitchell who singled in the first and doubled in the eighth, but was left stranded both times. While Talbot was on the hill, the only other two baserunners that reached for the Revs were an Alexi Casilla hit by pitch and a Mitchell free pass.

Sugar Land built its lead as Joe Benson connected on a two-run homer to left in the top of the fifth, and added a run in the seventh inning as Cole Gillespie tripled to deep center to lead off the inning. The Revs drew the infield in and Hector Olivera followed with a bloop hit to shallow right center to tack on the insurance run for a 3-0 advantage.

The Revs broke up the shutout in the ninth against reliever Mark Haynes. With one out, Alonzo Harris doubled off the wall in left and Casilla followed with an opposite field single to left, scoring Harris to make it 3-1, and extending his hitting streak to 20 straight games in the process. With Isaias Tejeda at bat representing the tying run, Casilla was picked off of first for the second out before Tejeda was struck out to end the game.

The Revs will look to split the series on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. when they send Logan Williamson (3-6, 4.89) to face off with Jake Hale (6-2, 2.67). It’s a big day at PeoplesBank Park featuring $1 Dog Day courtesy of Hatfield Quality Meats, Pre-game player autographs and catch on the field and post-game kids run the bases. There is also a Crab Feast catered by Captain Bob's Crabs in the Home Run Patio where fans can enjoy a two hour all-you-can-eat buffet from 12:15pm-2:15pm. For tickets visit yorkrevolution.com, the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office or call 717-801-HITS.

Darrell Henry and Matt Present will be on the air at 12:40 p.m. on 1350 WOYK, as well as online at woyk1350.com, and the WOYK App.

NOTES:

Casilla is now 36-85 (.424) over his 20-game streak and moves into a tie for eighth all-time in Revs history for longest hitting streaks with Shea Hillenbrand who hit safely in 20 straight from 7/3-7/29 in 2008.  The 20-game streak is the league’s second-longest of the season, behind only a 26-gamer by Sugar Land’s Anthony Giansanti.
