(August 4, 2022 – York, Pa.): The York Revolution were dealt a series sweep, falling 11-3 to the Lancaster Barnstormers on Thursday night at PeoplesBank Park. After a lengthy rain delay at the outset, Lancaster uncorked a 20-hit performance for a sixth consecutive win, while handing the Revs a sixth straight defeat, one shy of the longest skid in club history.
After an 89-minute delay, Lancaster got the scoring started early with three straight one out hits in the first, the third of which was an RBI single from Jacob Barfield, putting them ahead 1-0.
York answered back quickly as Elmer Reyes launched a homer over the Arch Nemesis for his ninth of the year, a solo shot to tie the game at 1-1.
The Revs took a 2-1 lead in the second with some two-out noise as Connor Lien drove a double to deep left and scored on a Yefri Perez RBI double to right-center.
Revs starter Austin Nicely retired the first two of the third inning rather quickly, but Lancaster ignited a rally with four straight two-out hits including a game-tying double from Ariel Sandoval and a two-run double by Anderson Feliz, putting the Barnstormers ahead 4-2. Lancaster plated one more in the fourth inning on a balk, grabbing a 5-2 advantage.
The fifth inning is where things went off the rails with six more crossing for Lancaster. They began the inning with another set of four straight hits, including another RBI double from Feliz and a two-run single by Anthony Peroni. The outburst later featured a two-run single from Andretty Cordero and an RBI groundout by Barfield as it was suddenly 11-2, Lancaster.
Barnstormers pitching cruised through the middle innings by retiring 11 straight York hitters until Troy Stokes Jr. led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a solo home run to left center field. It was his ninth long ball of the year, making it an 11-3 game.
Lancaster reliever Gray Fenter (1-0) allowed just one run on two hits in four innings while striking out four to pick up the win.
Augie Sylk finished the ninth with a 1-2-3 frame, handing the Revs their second straight series sweep.
Lancaster clinched at least a tie in the War of the Roses series, leading 16-10 with six meetings remaining.
The 20 hits by the Barnstormers are one shy of a season-high and are one shy of the most allowed by the Revs in a game this season.
York was held to six hits, all of which went for extra bases, including two homers and four doubles. The Revs now lead the league with 190 doubles on the season and are just two off the lead with 121 home runs as a team.
