(July 20, 2022 – York, Pa.): The York Revolution were unsuccessful in their attempt to cool off the Gastonia Honey Hunters on Wednesday, dropping the middle game of the series 10-0 in front of 3,412 fans at PeoplesBank Park. Gastonia slugged five home runs improving to 13-0 in the second half, and York mustered just four hits in the defeat.
It was Gastonia who struck first on Wednesday, as Zach Jarrett drove in his 41st run of the season on an RBI single in the top of the first inning, scoring Reece Hampton who led off the game with an infield single and stole second base.
Revs starter Alex Sanabia bounced back in the second inning, striking out the side in order on just 11 pitches.
Gastonia played small ball to add to the lead in the third inning. Two RBI fielder's choices and an RBI double from Jarrett made it 4-0 Gastonia.
Sanabia retired the first two he faced in the fourth inning before nine-hole hitter Stuart Levy kept the inning alive with a double down the left field line. Gastonia provided a potential early dagger, going back-to-back-to-back home runs, scoring four times to blow it open. First, it was Hampton who homered onto the tents in right field for the second straight night. Jack Reinheimer followed for the second straight night with a bomb over the Arch Nemesis in left. Joseph Rosa completed the trilogy with a blast to right of his own, and suddenly it was 8-0 Gastonia.
Brett de Geus relieved Sanabia (4-4), tossing two hitless innings in the fifth and sixth. He started the seventh with two more quick outs before Jake Skole hit his second homer in as many nights, a solo shot to dead center field to extend it to 9-0. The three innings in relief for de Geus matched a season high for a York reliever. He allowed just the one hit, striking out two.
Duke von Schamann followed with a scoreless eighth.
Lefty Tuck Tucker entered to pitch the ninth. Batting as a right-handed hitter, Rosa blasted his second homer of the night, a solo shot over the Nemesis to lead off the inning, giving the Honey Hunters a 10-0 lead as Rosa homered from both sides of the plate. Tucker was able to roll a 3-6-1 double play ball later in the inning to avoid any further damage.
The Revs put two on in the ninth but were held scoreless, shut out for the third time on the season and first at home. Gastonia lefty Ian McKinney (3-1) allowed just two hits in six innings for the win. Henry Martinez worked a perfect seventh, while Chad Sobotka and Jesus Balaguer struck out the side in the eighth and ninth, respectively as the Revs struck out 13 times on the night.
York will turn to Nick Travieso looking to avoid the sweep in Thursday morning’s Camp Day game at 11 a.m. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Shipley Energy Ticket Office.
Notes: York cleanup man Nellie Rodriguez reached in all four plate appearances on Wednesday, including a single and three walks, bringing his season total to a league-leading 70 walks on the year.
