(July 1, 2022 – Central Islip, NY): Carlos Franco crushed two more home runs and Yefri Perez added another long ball late as the York Revolution trampled the Long Island Ducks, winning 10-5 on Friday night in front of 6,335 fans at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.
York jumped ahead with three in the first inning against Ducks starter Anderson DeLeon. Troy Stokes Jr. led off with a single up the middle and Elmer Reyes walked to set the table. With two outs, Josue Herrera ripped an RBI single to center for the game’s first run. JC Encarnacion followed by legging out an infield single to plate Reyes, and Yefri Perez blasted an RBI ground rule double to deep right-center, spotting the Revs a 3-0 lead as they put up multiple first inning runs for the third consecutive night.
Long Island answered right away, tying the game at 3-3 as both starters were forced to throw 29 pitches in their opening frames. L.J. Mazzilli kicked it off with a leadoff walk and went to third on a single to right by Vladimir Frias. After Frias stole second, Alejandro De Aza singled to center to plate the Ducks’ first run and promptly also stole second. Sam Travis walked to load the bases, preceding back-to-back sac flies to right by Deibinson Romero and Rusney Castillo, leveling the score at the end of one.
The Revs ripped off another three runs in the second, chasing the opposing starter in the second inning for the second straight night. Stokes Jr. ignited things again with a one-out double off the fence in right-center and advanced to third as Reyes lined a single to left. Connor Lien followed with an RBI double down the left field line, and with two outs, Encarnacion ripped a two-run single into left, giving him three RBI in the first two innings for the second straight night, and lifting the Revs to a 6-3 lead.
Franco added to the lead in the top of the fourth, launching a 426-foot shot to deep right for his 21st home run of the season, matching the Revs’ franchise first half record set by Telvin Nash in 2019 and increasing the lead to 7-3.
Franco came within one of the Revs’ overall record for a half with his 22nd, a two-run shot to center field in the sixth as the lead grew to 9-3. It also marked a new single-season Revs record for Franco with his fifth multi-homer game of the year.
Revs starter Jorge Martinez (6-4) tossed scoreless ball after the first, going five innings, allowing just the three early runs to pick up the win. It marked the 20th victory of his Revs career, tying Wayne Franklin for sixth on the franchise’s all-time list.
Pinch-hitter Johnni Turbo connected on a solo homer to left in the sixth, cutting the lead to 9-4. De Aza added an RBI single to right field an inning later as the Ducks pulled within 9-5.
Perez closed the scoring, slamming a first pitch homer into the batter’s eye in dead center to leadoff the ninth, his career-high fifth of the season, all since the start of June.
Nick Howard and Nick Green closed it out with scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth, respectively out of the Revs bullpen.
Notes: Encarnacion drove in at least three runs for the fourth time in the last six games, totaling 14 RBI on that stretch; he also has 22 RBI in his last 13 games. Franco extended his on-base streak to 43 consecutive games, now just two shy of Nate Espy’s franchise record set in 2007. The Revs are now a combined 9-7 over their last two road trips including 2-2 on the current trip with two games remaining. The Revs pounded 17 hits for the second consecutive night, and scored double digits in runs for the fourth time in the last six games. The top four in the order all had multiple hits and multiple runs. Perez and Herrera both extended hitting streaks to six consecutive games.
