(May 30, 2022 – Lancaster, Pa.): In yet another back-and-forth affair in the War of the Roses series, the York Revolution came up on the short end against the Lancaster Barnstormers, falling 6-5 in 10 innings on Memorial Day evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium. York closes the series with a four-game split and finishes a 4-3 road trip, returning home on Tuesday evening vs. Southern Maryland.
In the bottom of the third, two York errors proved costly when LeDarious Clark launched a two-out, two-run home run to right field to put the Barnstormers ahead 2-0.
York answered back right away against Lancaster lefty Augie Sylk who walked three in the fourth inning and hit a batter as well. Runs crossed courtesy of a Jack Kenley RBI single and a Josue Herrera walk, tying the game at 2-2. For Kenley, it was his fifth RBI in the past two games.
Herrera knocked in his second run of the game as he hustled out an infield single to first base with two outs in the sixth, giving York a 3-2 lead. Kenley scored the run after reaching on an infield single of his own and hustling from first to third on a wild pitch. The run came off of reliever Chase Johnson who relieved an ejected Sylk, tossed after throwing a pitch behind Jhon Nunez after hitting him earlier in the game.
Controversy struck in the bottom of the sixth when Colton Shaver hit a line drive RBI double down the left field line that was ruled fair, much to the dismay of the Revs dugout and bullpen. It tied the game at 3-3 and placed runners on second and third with nobody out, but Revs starter Austin Nicely found his way out of danger. Andretty Cordero hit a line drive to Elmer Reyes at short for the first out. Anderson Feliz tapped a comebacker that Nicely snared and threw home with Nunez chasing and tagging out Kelly Dugan trying to retreat to third. Finally, an Anthony Peroni ground ball to second base ended the inning with the game still deadlocked.
The back-and-forth action rolled into the seventh when a groundball from JC Encarnacion slipped under Shaver’s glove at third, plating another run and putting York ahead 4-3.
Nicely worked into the bottom of the eighth, exiting after a one-out single to right by Dugan. That closed the book on another great outing from Nicely who struck out five while walking none for the second straight start.
Two wild pitches from reliever Alberto Rodriguez moved Dugan to third, which allowed him to score on Shaver’s sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game once again at 4-4.
After shutout ninth innings from both Lancaster’s Josh Graham and York’s Josh Martin, the game moved into extras.
The Revs scored one run in the top half on a Nunez double play ball that scored Connor Lien.
In the bottom half, a sacrifice fly from BJ Boyd tied the game at 5-5. Two batters later, Dugan lined a sinking line drive single to center which scored Devon Torrence, running on contact with two outs from second base, lifting the Barnstormers to the walk-off victory.
The Revs fall to 5-8 in the season series against the Barnstormers and will now turn their attention to a three-game midweek set at PeoplesBank Park against the North Division leading Southern Maryland Blue Crabs with Merandy Gonzalez getting the ball on Tuesday night against all-time Atlantic League wins leader Daryl Thompson at 6:30 p.m. It is TV Game Show Night, WellSpan Sports Medicine Silver Slugger Tuesday, and Baseball Bingo presented by Edgar Snyder and Associates.
