(May 28, 2022 – Lancaster, Pa.): Eduardo Rivera fired a dominant eight innings as the York Revolution evened their series against the Lancaster Barnstormers with a 3-1 victory on Saturday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
After recording just one hit on Friday, the Revs looked to get their offense back in gear on Saturday night. A seventh inning rally was enough to back Rivera’s masterful pitching performance.
Rivera (2-1) stole the show on the mound for the second time in Lancaster, going eight innings while allowing just one unearned run on just three hits, striking out three.
The Barnstormers struck first in the second inning. LeDarious Clark led off the inning reaching on an error by Carlos Franco at third base and came around to score on a two-out, two-strike single through the right side by Anderson Feliz.
York answered quickly in the third, thanks to Jack Kenley who led off the inning with his first homer of the year, parking one to right field to tie things at 1-1.
Devon Torrence led off the bottom of the third with a single, but was cut down by catcher Jhon Nunez, throwing out his first base runner in a Revs uniform. That would seemingly take the air out of the Lancaster offense as they would not record another hit until the eighth inning.
It looked as if the Barnstormers could threaten in the fourth when Clark led off with a walk, but he was erased one batter later when Troy Stokes Jr. doubled him off after a flyball to right field when Clark had attempted to steal.
York finally broke the tie in the seventh inning. After Franco reached on an error, Connor Lien doubled down the left field line to put two in scoring position for the debuting Nunez who hit a deep fly ball to right for a go-ahead sac fly, scoring a tagging Franco. Lien later crossed on a wild pitch, giving the Revs a 3-1 lead.
Jim Fuller pitched the ninth inning, going 1-2-3 against the heart of the Lancaster order with two strikeouts to end the game. For Fuller, it was his sixth save of the season, moving him into a tie for second in the league while his 35 saves in a York uniform now pull him within four of matching Mike DeMark’s franchise record.
The Revs will continue the four-game series in Lancaster on Sunday at 1 p.m. when Duke von Schamann takes the hill to oppose righty Nile Ball.
