REVS WIN 1-0

(May 24, 2022 – Staten Island, NY):  The York Revolution celebrated manager Mark Mason’s birthday in style with a 1-0 victory over the Staten Island FerryHawks on Tuesday night at Staten Island University Hospital Northwell Health Community Park.  The win is the third in the last four games for the Revs, who will now go for a third series victory in the last four tries on Wednesday evening.

The Revs grabbed an early lead in the top of the second.  Connor Lien kept things alive with a two-out single to left, setting up Paul Mondesi who nailed a first pitch RBI single to center for a 1-0 lead.

York had an opportunity to extend the lead after singles from Carlos Franco, Josue Herrera, and Jack Kenley loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth but FerryHawks starter Matt Solter escaped.

York used six pitchers to combine on the four-hit shutout, the Revs’ first since June 24, 2021 vs. Southern Maryland and their first 1-0 win since July 20, 2018 vs. Sugar Land.

Revs starter Alex Sanabia worked the first 3.2 innings and was strong early, striking out five and walking none before exiting due to an apparent lower body injury.

Jhoendri Herrera was the first to enter in relief, and stranded two runners in the fourth, and worked out of a two-on, no-out jam in the fifth retiring the top three in the Staten Island lineup to maintain the 1-0 edge.

Alberto Rodriguez (2-1) was credited with the victory, working a perfect sixth.

Josh Martin recorded the first two outs in the seventh, allowing only a runner to reach on a defensive error, before Adrian Almeida entered to retire Ben Ruta on an inning-ending ground out, leaving the tying run at second.  Almeida also overcame a leadoff single in the bottom of the eighth, using a strike out and a double play ball to work his 11th consecutive scoreless appearance.

Jim Fuller struck out the final two in a perfect ninth for his fifth save of the season and 34th of his Revs career, moving past Rommie Lewis for second on the franchise’s all-time saves list.

Notes: Tuesday marked the 22nd 1-0 game in Revs history and the 12th victory.  It was the first road 1-0 win since September 12, 2016 at Lancaster (8 innings) and the first in a 9-inning road game since June 15, 2012 at Somerset.  Mason’s victory is his 560th as Revs manager, sixth-most in league history; he is now 11 shy of moving into a tie for fifth, and 12 shy of moving into a tie for fourth on the Atlantic League’s all-time list.  The Revs improve to 6-4 in their last 10 games, winning three of four for the second time.  It is York’s first ever win against the expansion FerryHawks, having suffered a sweep at Staten Island two weeks earlier.  Solter (0-2) lost despite not allowing an earned run for the second straight start; he has allowed just four earned runs in six starts but his team’s offense has totaled just four runs in those six starts including three 1-0 defeats.  York lefty Austin Nicely will face Staten Island right-hander Julio Teheran on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, The New WOYK app, and the WOYK YouTube channel beginning at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
