REVS WIN OPENER

(May 17, 2022 – York, Pa.):  Josue Herrera blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to spark the offense, and a great effort from the bullpen led the York Revolution to a 5-4 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers on Tuesday night at PeoplesBank Park in the opening game of a six-game homestand.  The win is the third in the last four games for the Revs who will go for a second straight series win on Wednesday night.

Lancaster got things started in the first inning by scoring three off of Revs starter Alex Sanabia. Back-to-back singles by Colton Shaver and Andretty Cordero accounted for the three runs.

York answered in the bottom of the first with four of their own. Elmer Reyes ambushed a fastball over the left-center field fence for his second home run of the season, a solo shot. Later in the inning, Herrera cracked a missile to right field with two outs, a three-run longball for his first of the season to put the Revs on top 4-3.

Lancaster tied the game in the top of the second on a throwing error by catcher Paul Mondesi. Afterwards, Sanabia would settle into a groove, striking out the final two batters of the inning to leave the bases loaded before retiring the side in order in the third.

Sanabia (2-1) would have to tiptoe out of danger in both the fourth and fifth innings, allowing back-to-back hits to lead off both innings before retiring the next three in order both times. His day was done after five innings with four runs (three earned) and four strikeouts.

In their half of the fourth, York loaded the bases with nobody out after a walk, single, and catcher's interference. Mondesi followed with a sacrifice fly to right to give York a 5-4 lead.

Jhoendri Herrera and Josh Martin followed Sanabia with scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh, respectively.

Adrian Almeida ran into trouble in the eighth, but again survived unscathed after striking out LeDarious Clark and getting Kelly Dugan to pop out to short, stranding two runners.

Jim Fuller entered to shut things down in the ninth with the 5-4 lead still intact. Fuller struck out the leadoff hitter Colton Shaver before inducing a pop up and soft ground ball to end things.

The save moved Fuller into third in franchise history with his 32nd career save, passing RJ Rodriguez. That was not the only milestone, as Mark Mason moved alone into sixth all-time in Atlantic League managerial victories with his 557th, surpassing former Somerset skipper Brett Jodie.  Melky Mesa (12-game hitting streak) also moved up the Revs’ all-time doubles chart with his 79th on a two-bagger in the first inning, tying Eric Patterson for fourth on the franchise’s career list.

The Revs will look to continue the momentum on Wednesday in game two of the series as Austin Nicely gets the ball against fellow lefty Augie Sylk for Lancaster at 6:30 p.m.  It is Rockets & Revs Night, and a PeoplesBank Kids Eat Free Wednesday.  Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Shipley Energy Ticket Office.
