(May 10, 2022 – Staten Island, NY): The York Revolution were unable to overcome a fourth inning rally, dropping their first ever meeting with the expansion Staten Island FerryHawks, 8-2 on Tuesday evening at Community Park.
York starter Alex Sanabia (1-1) was sharp early, striking out five through the first three scoreless innings.
Trouble began in the fourth when Rymer Liriano, 2-for-26 on the season to that point, took a leadoff walk and Ricardo Cespedes singled to left. John Nester, 1-for-21 to that point on the season, took advantage by driving a two-run double to deep right-center to open the scoring. Ben Ruta compounded things, connecting on a three-run homer to right as the FerryHawks suddenly held a 5-0 lead.
The Revs answered right away in the fifth. Facing Staten Island starter Dakota Freese (1-0) who retired his first 10 batters of the night, Elmer Reyes lined a leadoff double to left and Josue Herrera took a walk. After Jack Kenley advanced both runners on a ground out, Paul Mondesi (2-for-4) lined a two-run single to right-center, knifing the deficit to 5-2.
Still down three an inning later, York threatened with runners at second and third and one out after a Carlos Franco double to right, but reliever Eddy Reynoso entered to record the final two outs of the inning, and in a turning point, the FerryHawks plated two runs in their half of the inning to go up 7-2. Both runs were unearned as Staten Island scored on a throwing error by Revs reliever Robinson Parra, and also on a wild pitch.
Staten Island tallied one more in the seventh without needing a hit, as a pair of wild pitches from Johsson Arias brought Nester home after reaching on a hit by pitch.

Notes: The win is just the second all-time for Staten Island (2-14) who set franchise records for runs in a game (8) and in an inning (5). Sanchez’ scoreless appearance marked his sixth in eight outings.
