(May 9, 2022 – York, Pa.): A milestone-filled performance catapulted the York Revolution to their fourth win of the season, a 2-1 series finale victory over the High Point Rockers on Monday afternoon at PeoplesBank Park as York snapped a three-game losing streak and avoided a sweep to close out the opening homestand.
Revs starter Nick Travieso and High Point’s Jheyson Manzueta traded zeros through the first two innings, with Travieso setting down the first seven he faced setting the tone for a pitchers’ duel right away.
Back-to-back High Point singles from Chris Proctor and Mike Gulino in the top of the third were followed by a sacrifice fly to left by leadoff hitter Jay Gonzalez as the Rockers struck first.
The Revs answered in the bottom of the fourth inning. After Troy Stokes Jr. singled to start things off, Melky Mesa launched his second home run over the Arch Nemesis in as many games, putting York on top 2-1. For Mesa, it was the 60th home run of his Revs career, placing him third in Revs history ahead of Chris Nowak. He is now six behind Andres Perez for 2nd on the franchise leaderboard.
High Point gave Travieso trouble in the sixth, putting two aboard before Revs manager Mark Mason opted for lefty Adrian Almeida. After Almeida walked the first batter he faced, the flamethrowing southpaw struck out Tyler Ladendorf with the bases loaded to end the frame without a run, preserving the 2-1 lead.
Travieso’s book was closed after 5.2 innings, allowing just one run on four hits to earn his first win of the season.
After receiving the loss in game two of Sunday’s doubleheader, Jim Fuller had a chance at redemption when he entered the seventh inning. The Revs closer allowed a one-out walk, but retired the next two hitters, capped off by a flyout to left field off the bat of Gulino, securing Fuller’s second save of the season and 31st of his Revs career, moving him into a tie for third in team history with R.J. Rodriguez.
