FRANCO GOES YARD TWICE

(May 5, 2022 - York, Pa.):  Thursday’s game showed plenty of great flashes for the York Revolution, but the caveat was an 11-run third inning that propelled the Gastonia Honey Hunters to a 12-7 win in the rubber match at PeoplesBank Park on Baseball in Education Day.

York lefty Austin Nicely started the game and appeared to be finding his stride again through the first two innings. Nicely struck out the side in the first inning, and retired the side in order in the second.

Nicely received some early run support as Carlos Franco launched his fourth home run of the year, a three-run shot to right field off of the clubhouse to give York an early 3-0 lead.

The third inning is where the wheels began to fall off, with Gastonia starting off the inning with eight straight hits as part of an 11-run outburst that chased Nicely (0-3) after just 2.2 innings. Jack Reinheimer enjoyed a starring role in the inning, driving a two-run single to deep left to open the scoring and later greeting reliever Robinson Parra with a three-run homer to left as the Gastonia shortstop collected five RBI in the third inning alone.  Stuart Levy's two-run double to left-center accompanied RBI singles by Joseph Rosa and Reece Hampton as the 11-run inning was the largest allowed by the Revs since April 28, 2018 vs. Lancaster and one shy of a club record.

York earned runs back in the fourth and fifth innings, on solo home runs to left-center by Elmer Reyes and Franco, respectively. Franco’s longball in the fifth gave him his fifth on the season, pulling within one of the league lead at the time, and the first multi-homer game of his Revs career.

Reinheimer (3-for-6, 2 HR, 6 RBI) circled the bases on an inside-the-park home run on a ball lodged in the right field corner but ruled playable as Gastonia picked up its 12th run in the top of the fifth inning.  It marked the fifth inside-the-parker against the Revs all-time and first since July 26, 2019 (Zach Collier, New Britain).  It was the fourth inside-the-park homer in PeoplesBank Park history and second by an opposing batter.

The bullpen got solid outings from Jhoendri Herrera who threw two scoreless, sandwiched by scoreless innings from Isaac Sanchez and Adrian Almeida. Johsson Arias struck out two in his lone inning of work, allowing the only earned run charged to the Revs bullpen on the day coming on Reinheimer's inside-the-parker.

The Revs chased reliever Miguel Hernandez, attempting to notch a nine-out save, with two outs in the ninth following an RBI single from Reyes, but Onas Farfan needed just one pitch in relief to get the final out and record the save.

York put up seven runs on 11 hits including a season-high three home runs offensively.

The Revs will continue the homestand this weekend and will send Jorge Martinez to the mound for his third start in a series opener against the High Point Rockers on Friday evening. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m., and the game will be followed by Postgame Fireworks courtesy of Give Local York.  Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Shipley Energy Ticket Office.
