(September 15, 2021 – York, Pa.): The York Revolution clinched a season series victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers with a 6-4 win in a rain-shortened six innings on Wednesday evening at PeoplesBank Park. The Revs retain Community Cup possession and have won three consecutive games overall and six straight head-to-head against the Barnstormers. Wednesday’s scheduled doubleheader saw the nightcap postponed, as the two teams will now play a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 4 p.m.
York started the scoring with a two-run first. After James Harris led off the inning with a walk, Jack Kenley smacked a double to right to put both men in scoring position. With one out, Nellie Rodriguez knocked in both runs with a single to right-center.
The Barnstormers answered almost immediately in the second. After a Kelly Dugan leadoff walk, LeDarious Clark launched a two-run home run to left-center for a 2-2 tie.
In the fourth, JC Encarnacion launched a solo shot over the right edge of the batter’s eye in center for a 3-2 Revs lead.
Lancaster tied the game again and ultimately took a lead, 4-3 in the fifth. Blake Allemand led off the inning with a ground rule double and with two outs, Melvin Mercedes walked. Long time Barnstormers Caleb Gindl and Blake Gailen produced the tying and lead-giving singles to right.
York’s bats had answers in their fifth at the plate. Kenley crushed a leadoff home run to right for a 4-4 tie. A pair of walks to Carlos Franco and Josue Herrera set the stage for Welington Dotel whose two-run double to the left field corner gave York a 6-4 lead.
Revs starter Eduardo Rivera (5-2) worked five innings for the win, and Israel Cruz was credited his first save after striking out the side in order in the sixth.
The Revs lead the War of the Roses series, 13-10, and their six consecutive victories head-to-head against the Barnstormers are one shy of matching the all-time record set in 2010. York has won the series in back-to-back seasons for the second time in franchise history, having also done so in 2013-14.
The win brings the Revs within two games of first place in the North Division standings.
Lancaster’s loss is its 11th straight overall.
