(August 6, 2021 – Charleston, WV): The potent York Revolution offense was limited to four hits and a pair of sac flies in an 8-2 loss to the West Virginia Power on Friday evening at Appalachian Power Park. The Revs slip to 1-2 in the second half and will look to even up their record on Saturday with two games remaining on their current road trip.
West Virginia opened the scoring with a three-run first inning, using five consecutive hits to do so. Teodoro Martinez started things with a one-out single to right, and came home as Alberto Callaspo followed with a double down the right field line compounded by a fielding error on the play. Edwin Espinal drove a first pitch RBI double off the base of the center field fence. Rymer Liriano singled to left to keep the line moving, and Miles Williams added an RBI single through the left side of the infield before Revs starter Duke von Schamann closed the inning on a double play grounder.
York got on the board in the fourth after Power starter David Kubiak retired his first 10 consecutive batters to begin the game. Jack Kenley worked his way aboard with a one-out walk and advanced to third as Melky Mesa lined a single to right-center. That set the table for Nellie Rodriguez who cracked a line drive sac fly to left, bringing Kenley home to cut the deficit to 3-1.
West Virginia blew it open with a five-run fifth. Liriano delivered the first big blow with a two-run double to left-center before Williams cracked a three-run homer to left, expanding the Power’s lead to 8-1.
The Revs scored on another sac fly in the sixth as Tyler Hill led off the inning with a double to right-center, moved to third on a Kenley infield knock, and scored on Mesa’s fly to center, cutting it to 8-2.
Kubiak (1-3) held the Revs to just two runs on three hits in six innings to earn the win. He struck out six before giving way to the bullpen duo of Luis Guzman (five strike outs in two innings) and Eleardo Cabrera (two strike outs) as the Revs were whiffed 13 times in the game.
von Schamann (3-5) suffered the loss, saddled with eight runs in six innings after taking a shutout into the ninth in his previous outing against West Virginia.
Luis Sanchez retired six of seven batters faced in relief for the Revs, handling the final two frames on the mound.
York’s four hits matched a season-low for the third time, and first since July 2.
