(August 5, 2021 – Lancaster, Pa.): The York Revolution offense enjoyed another big night but this time it occurred in defeat as the Revs fell to the Lancaster Barnstormers, 17-12 on Thursday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The Revs fall to 1-1 in the second half and will continue their nine-game road trip to West Virginia on Friday evening.
Lancaster scored multiple runs in each of their first six innings. The Barnstormers scored twice in the first as the first two hitters, Caleb Gindl and Blake Allemand, reached on a single and double respectively. Alejandro de Aza plated Gindl on a groundout to short. Bringing home Allemand from third, Kelly Dugan singled to right for a 2-0 lead.
With two on and two out in the second, Allemand drove in another run on a single to right. De Aza drove in two more with a double short of the fence in right-center for a 5-0 lead.
Battling back, York struck with a three-run third inning. The first four batters reached in the inning starting with Jack Kenley’s leadoff walk. Melky Mesa followed with a walk of his own and Nellie Rodriguez scored Kenley on a double to right. For his league-leading 80th hit of the season, Carlos Castro collected a run-scoring single to right field. Rodriguez scored on a double play for the final run of the inning and a 5-3 score.
Trading power shots, the Barnstormers added four to their total in the home half of the third. After loading the bases on walks, Anthony Peroni scored on a wild pitch. Jake Hoover drove in two more on a double to right. Gindl followed it up with a run-scoring single to right-center for a six-run lead, 9-3.
In the fourth, Lancaster continued the barrage with three runs. Trayvon Robinson led it off with a homer to right. After Dugan legged out an infield hit, Peroni scored him on a double to left. Cleuluis Rondon followed with his own double to plate Peroni for the 12-3 advantage.
Ignoring the deficit, the Revs continued to rake at the plate and came within one run, 12-11, with a bat-around fifth. Kenley greeted Francisco Mendoza with a leadoff home run to right. After Mesa collected a base hit up the middle to center, Rodriguez crushed an offering to deep left field for the second Revs home run of the frame. Castro broke his bat on a sharp single to left center. With two outs on the board, Osmy Gregorio and Tyler Hill loaded the bases with singles. For his second hit of the night, James Harris dumped a single into center, scoring Castro and Gregorio to bring York within four, 12-8. Kenley collected his second RBI of the inning on a line drive double to right. Bringing York within a run, Mesa scored Harris and Kenley on a line drive single to center to make it 12-11.
Runs continued to materialize for Lancaster, however, with three additional runs in their fifth at the plate. Following an Allemand walk and Dugan getting hit by a pitch, LeDarious Clark belted a pinch-hit, two-run triple to the right field corner. Peroni immediately followed with a base hit to center to keep York at an arm’s length, 15-11.
Robinson struck again in the sixth with a two-run home run to right for the 16th and 17th runs for Lancaster.
The Revs fired the final shot with a leadoff home run to right in the eighth from Kenley for his second two-home run game of his professional career and a 17-12 score.
York makes their final stop on the nine-game road trip with the first of a three-game series against the West Virginia Power on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Duke von Schamann (3-4, 5.72) starts the opener for York. Notes: York scored 12 runs for a second consecutive night, but tied a team record for most runs scored in a loss (Sept. 3, 2007 in a 14-12 loss vs. Bridgeport). The Revs tied a season-high with 8 runs in one inning, doing so for the second straight game and third time in Lancaster. The 29 combined runs tied the second highest single-game total in Revs history, one shy of matching the highwater mark which occurred in an 18-12 win at Southern Maryland in 2019. The Revs blasted three home runs and hit multiple homers for the sixth consecutive game, totaling 17 long balls in those six contests. The game was the Revs’ seventh this season in which both teams scored in double digits; five of those have come against Lancaster.
