(August 3, 2021 – Lancaster, Pa.):  The York Revolution received a big offensive night from Melky Mesa but dropped a 10-9 walk-off decision in 10 innings to the Lancaster Barnstormers in Tuesday night’s first half finale at Clipper Magazine Stadium.  The series continues on Wednesday in the second half opener for both teams.

 

York took the early initiative with two runs in the first. James Harris led off the game with a base hit to center. Jack Kenley followed with a walk. After both advanced a base on a wild pitch, Mesa smacked a single to left to score both for the 2-0 lead. 

 

The Revs scored twice in the third on a pair of doubles. After Mesa’s leadoff single, JC Encarnacion and Josue Herrera both belted two-out RBI doubles to right to make it 4-0 York. 

 

Lancaster got on the board in their third at the plate. A Revs error allowed Blake Allemand to reach first with no one out. With two outs, Kelly Dugan collected a double to right for the first Barnstormers run, 4-1. 

 

York tacked on two more to pad their lead, 6-1 in the fourth. The Revs rallied with two outs starting with Kenley doubling to left field on a fly ball. Mesa singled again to left for his third RBI of the night. Carlos Castro brought Mesa home on a line drive single to center for the second run.

 

The Barnstormers scored four times in their fourth inning to come within one run. Reliever Brent Teller and Cleuluis Rondon both reached on base hits. With one out, Gindl plated Teller on a hard-hit single to right. Allemand delivered the big hit, a three-run home run to right-center to cut York’s lead to one, 6-5 and chase starter Joey Lara from the game in his Revs debut.

 

Mesa provided the Revs with a two-run cushion, 7-5, on a solo home run to right in the top of the sixth.

 

Lancaster continued to encroach on the Revs’ lead with one run in the seventh. Alejandro De Aza led off the inning with base hit to left field. With two outs on the board, Anderson De La Rosa drilled a double to the left field wall again cutting York’s lead to one, 7-6. 

 

Both teams traded two-run home runs in the eighth. After Harris walked, Kenley smashed one yard over the right-center field fence to briefly extend the lead to 9-6. For Lancaster, Allemand hit his second bomb of the night on a drive to right after Gindl’s leadoff single to pull back within one run, 9-8.

 

After leading through the first eight and a half innings, York allowed Lancaster to tie it in the bottom of the ninth.  Anthony Peroni grounded a pinch-hit single to center with one out. A wild pitch allowed his pinch-runner, Dominic DiSabatino, to move to second. After Nick Shumpert struck out for the second out, Rondon ripped a line drive single to left and DiSabatino beat the throw from Mesa in left for the 9-9 tie. 

 

After York was held scoreless in their part of the 10th, Lancaster loaded the bases against Israel Cruz on a pair of walks. A two-out wild pitch allowed Gindl to rush home from third as York suffered its sixth walk-off loss of the season.

 

Wednesday begins the second half of play in the 2021 Atlantic League Season as Austin Nicely (4-5, 4.06) takes the mound for York. The Barnstormers will counter with righty Zach Smith (0-0).
