LEGENDS DRAW EVEN

(July 28, 2021 – York, Pa.):  One night after a big offensive performance, the York Revolution attack was held in check in a 5-2 loss to the Lexington Legends on Wednesday evening at PeoplesBank Park.  The two teams will meet in the series rubber match on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., concluding the Revs’ nine-game homestand as York looks to win its second series in three tries.

Lexington scored the first run for the second time in the series. In the second, Jordan Pacheco collected a leadoff double to left field. Moving to third on an error, Pacheco came home as Jake Romanski plated him with an RBI groundout for a 1-0 advantage.

The Revs tied it up, 1-1, with a two-out rally in the fourth. Nellie Rodriguez ignited it with a base hit to left, extending his hitting streak to 12 consecutive games. Carlos Castro walked, moving Rodriguez into scoring position for Welington Dotel. As the night’s designated hitter, Dotel delivered the tying base hit on single up to the middle into center.

The Legends took back a one-run lead in the fifth. After leading off the frame with a ground rule double, Romanski moved to third on a ground out to first from Derek Reddy. Revs starter Austin Nicely then delivered a wild pitch that granted Romanski enough time to race home for a 2-1 lead.

York tied the game for a second time in their half of the fifth. Darian Sandford smacked a one-out single to right and stole second base giving him his 35th stolen base on the season. With two outs, Jack Kenley singled to right for the 2-2 tie after five innings.

Lexington’s sixth inning proved the difference maker. Ben Aklinski collected a leadoff single to right center and DJ Peterson followed with a blast over the batter’s eye in dead center for the 4-2 advantage.

An insurance run crossed for the Legends in the eighth. Aklinski worked a one-out walk and moved to second on a wild pitch from Revs reliever Isaac Sanchez. On an 0-2 count, Jordan Pacheco grounded an offering into right to make it 5-2 on the RBI single.

York finishes up its home series with Lexington Thursday evening as Austin Steinfort (1-4) gets the ball for the Revs. Lefty Christian Friedrich (0-0) will start the rubber match for Lexington. It is Throwback Thursday: PeoplesBank Park will get groovy as we travel back to the 60s! Tickets are available at yorkrevolution.com, 717-801-HITS, or in-person at the Shipley Energy Ticket Office.

Notes: Rodriguez’ 12-game hitting streak is the Revs’ second-longest of the season behind only his own 14-gamer to start the year.  Sandford stole three bases for the fifth time in a game this season and leads the league with 37 thefts, the Revs’ highest single-season total since 2014.  Sandford broke a tie with Travis Witherspoon (2016) and Dotel (2019) for third in Revs single-season history with his first steal of the evening, and now trails only Wilson Valdez (55) and Sean Smith (41) who both set the two highest marks in 2014.  His 37 steals already rank 10th on the Revs’ all-time career list.  The eighth inning run snapped a five-appearance scoreless streak for Sanchez who pulled into a tie for second in the league in appearances with his 24th.  Alberto Rodriguez tossed a perfect ninth in his league-leading 28th appearance.
