(July 27, 2021 – York, Pa.): The York Revolution tied a season high with 17 hits in a 10-7 victory over the Lexington Legends on Tuesday night at PeoplesBank Park. The win snaps a three-game skid for the Revs who will now go for the series victory with two games remaining on its current homestand.
Lexington drew the first run scoring frame with a two-out rally in the first. DJ Peterson started the rally with a single to left. Jordan Pacheco was hit by a pitch, moving Peterson to second. With a runner in scoring position, Roberto Baldoquin brought his fellow infielder in from second on a double to left.
York took its first lead in the second. In their 19th bat-around inning of the year, the Revs scored four runs on five hits. Welington Dotel started the hit party with a one-out double to right. Josue Herrera followed with an RBI triple to center scoring Dotel. Even with two outs, the Revs refused to relent. Darian Sandford reached on a fielding error with Herrera scoring on the play. After stealing second, Sandford scored on James Harris’ base hit to right. Harris moved to third on Jack Kenley’s single to right and scored when Melky Mesa ran out an RBI infield hit for the 4-1 lead.
In the third, the Revs scored once on a pair of hits to make it 5-1. Carlos Castro sparked the inning with a leadoff double to right-center. For his second RBI, Herrera plated Castro on a hard-hit single to left.
The Legends began their climb back in the fourth with a pair of runs on three hits. Baldoquin started the offense with a base hit back up the middle to center. With one out, Derek Reddy collected his fifth hit in six games with the Legends on a single to right and moved Baldoquin to third. On a wild pitch from Revs starter Duke von Schamann, Baldoquin raced home for the first run. Tillman Pugh brought in the second with a line drive double to right, cutting York’s lead to two, 5-3.
Pushing their advantage back to three, York got a run back in the fifth. The first four hitters reached on Legends starter JJ Hoover. Dotel and Herrera both collected base hits to put runners on the corners with no outs. Gregorio reached on a fielder’s choice that saw Dotel thrown out at the plate on a throw from Peterson charging in from third. Following a bunt single from Sandford to load the bases, Harris plated Herrera on a sac fly to right to go up 6-3.
Lexington erased the lead, scoring three times in the sixth. Pugh looped an RBI single to right and Cole Sturgeon pulled an RBI double to right, cutting the York lead to 6-5 and chasing von Schamann after 5.1 innings. Bubby Rossman notched what would have been an inning-ending strike out of Peterson, but a passed ball allowed Peterson to reach and Pugh to score, tying the game at 6-6. Rossman (2-2) struck out Boldaquin to leave the bases loaded, combining with von Schamann to strike out four Legends in the inning.
The Revs responded in a big way in the bottom of the sixth, returning serve with three of their own. Notes: The Revs tied a season-high with 17 hits for the third time this year (June 3 at Gastonia, June 15 vs. Lancaster). York has won three straight head-to-head vs. Lexington as the Revs improve to 3-1 all-time against the Legends. York went 7-for-19 with runners in scoring position after totaling just six hits in such situations over the previous four games (6-for-45). Encarnacion has hit safely in four straight plate appearances going back to Sunday’s game with three doubles on that stretch; he has also recorded a double in back-to-back pinch-hit appearances. Sandford stole two bases giving him 34 steals on the year, tying Travis Witherspoon (2016) and Dotel (2019) for third-most in a season in franchise history; only Wilson Valdez (55) and Sean Smith (41) have tallied more in a single-season, both doing so in 2014.
