(June 11, 2021 – York, Pa.): The York Revolution’s league best offense was silenced on Friday night, dropping the opening game of a 12-game homestand, 6-0 to the Long Island Ducks on a dreary, misty evening at PeoplesBank Park.  The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for the Revs who will look to even the three-game weekend series on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.

 

Long Island got on the board first with a two-run second inning. Ryan Jackson led off the inning with a walk. Hector Sanchez followed with a base hit to left field and Sal Giardina brought in the first run with a single to right. Johnni Turbo brought home the second run of the frame with a fielder’s choice for a 2-0 Ducks lead. 

 

After retiring seven in a row, Revs starter Duke von Schamann allowed the first four Ducks batters to reach on hits in the fifth. Giardina struck again with a double to right field to score Sanchez from first. Charlie Tilson did the most damage with a two-run double to right field and Steve Lombardozzi brought in the fourth run on a sac fly to right field as the Ducks’ lead swelled to 6-0.

 

On offense, York was held to just five hits. Nellie Rodriguez (2-for-4) provided the biggest highlight, continuing his league-best 13-game hitting streak with a double to left-center in the bottom of the seventh. 

 

von Schamann (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits, one walk, and one striking out. 

 

Iorio (2-0) earned the win for Long Island with six shutout innings, scattering four hits, walking two, and recording three strikeouts. 

 

York lefty Austin Nicely (0-1) makes his third start of the year on Saturday opposite Long Island’s Brendan Feldmann (0-0).  Go Green Night with Reusable Metal Straw Giveaway presented by York County Solid Waste Authority will also feature an appearance from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Shipley Energy Ticket Office.

 

Notes: Revs shortstop Edwin Figuera’s contract was purchased by the Chicago Cubs, it was announced during Friday’s game.  Figuera exited to an ovation from the home crowd at PeoplesBank Park, and becomes the fourth Revs player to have his contract purchased by a Major League club this season (the third middle infielder).  He is the 39th Atlantic League player to have his contract purchased.  Figuera batted .355 with three doubles, a triple, six RBI, three stolen bases, 13 runs scored (tied for third most in league), and a .500 on-base percentage in 12 games played with York.
