COMEBACK BID FALLS SHORT

(June 5, 2017 – Lancaster, Pa.):  The York Revolution clawed back within a run and had the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position in the ninth, but fell to the Lancaster Barnstormers 4-3 on Monday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.  The Revs settle for the four-game split as their road trip continues to Southern Maryland on Tuesday evening.

Down 4-0 with one out in the seventh, Jared Mitchell launched a two-run homer to right as the Revs sliced the deficit in half at 4-2 on Mitchell’s third of the year.

York made a bid at completing the comeback in the ninth inning.  Barnstormers closer Anthony Carter recorded a strikeout for the first out, but Derrick Robinson reached on an infield single.  Then after a fly ball for the second out, Carlos Triunfel singled up the middle to keep the game alive.  Travis Witherspoon then battled to stay alive and grounded a base hit into shallow left, plating Robinson to make it 4-3.  Triunfel advanced from first to third and Witherspoon hustled into second with the double.  Carter rebounded to retire Angel Franco on a ground out to first base, however, holding on to record his 10th save.

Lancaster scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the third.  The rally started with a double to right by Vladimir Frias, and Anderson De La Rosa singled him home on a base hit to right-center for the game’s first run.  Darian Sandford then walked and Rico Noel struck an RBI double toward the left field line to make it 2-0.  Caleb Gindl and Sean Halton would each drive sacrifice flies to center to account for the other runs and a 4-0 Lancaster lead.

Revs starter Logan Williamson rebounded to work a scoreless fourth and a perfect fifth.  He then maneuvered past a leadoff double by Halton in the sixth to retire the next two batters.  After hitting Frias with a pitch, Williamson handed it off to reliever Manny Corpas who retired De La Rosa on a pop up to keep the Barnstormers at bay.

Hawtin Buchanan handled a scoreless seventh and Ricardo Gomez fired a perfect eighth in his season debut to keep York within striking distance.

Lancaster starter Bryan Evans (2-2) picked up the win, allowing two runs on six hits in seven innings.  He struck out eight while walking only one, issuing a free pass to Robinson one batter before Mitchell’s home run.

Kevin Munson retired the side in order in the eighth out of the Lancaster bullpen.

York out-hit Lancaster 9-7, with Mitchell, Robinson, and Michael Burgess all logging two hits apiece.

Notes: Mitchell is now 14-for-37 (.378) with eight extra-base hits over his last 13 games.  Williamson increased his innings total to 300.2 in his Revs career, third most all-time.  Witherspoon has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games, batting .413 (19-for-46).  York righty Steve Janas (1-3, 4.56) faces Southern Maryland right-hander Drew Hayes (2-1, 3.09) in Tuesday’s opener at Regency Furniture Stadium.  First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m., and Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK app beginning at 6:15 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Matt Present on the call.
